What began as a “day of fire” a week and a half ago has now turned daytime skies in São Paulo an inky black. The Amazon has been in deep, deep trouble ever since far-right president Jair Bolsnaro took over running Brazil. Advocates feared his regime would commit ecological “genocide” in the Amazon and with each passing month, those fears are becoming reality.
The discovery suggests that microplastics are being carried around the planet in atmospheric winds, and that we’re breathing them in.
Afghanistan’s war has been raging for decades, a third of the casualties are children. Last year, the UN recorded 927 child deaths and 2,135 injuries. Instead of helping these people, our governments collaborate with regimes who are more than willing to infringe upon their rights and destroy their forests. If we manage to destroy them, we are certainly going to destroy ourselves.
