We’re celebrating International Day of Transgender Visibility today!
Transgender visual artists around the world have been the champions for making their communities visible through their work and activism, such as South African artist and visual activist Zanelle Muholi (they/them) whose work document and celebrate the lives of South Africa's Black Lesbian, Gay, transgender, and intersex communities. American artist, Jay Lynn Gomez (she/her) addresses social justice issues, focusing specifically on topics of immigration, race, and labor, in particular, unseen laborers who maintain landscapes and produce luxury products. Canadian visual and performance artist, body builder, Cassils (they/them), now based in California, uses their body in a sculptural fashion, integrating feminism, body art, and gay male aesthetics. The Fine Arts Library would like everyone to join us in celebrating trans visual artists’ legacies of trans creative expression.
