Thanks, Everyday Genius: SquareLogic, for your apt assessment of me
I think my favourite thing about books is how they shape us. Your book history is uniquely your own, no one else in the world has read the all the same books at the exact same times of their lives as you have, and all those books have changed you so intrinsically that you couldn’t erase their influence on you anymore then you could change your DNA.
hi! sorry to bother you but would it be okay for me to ask whether you know a fic i'm looking for? i don't know where else to ask, if not thats totally okay tho! Ive been looking (for more than a month :/) for this merthur fic where arthur know about the magic and have a secret relationships. the knight find out along the way. In the end merlin is hurt(stabbed i think and passes out) and arthur is really worried. the knight are all go care for him we know you love each other
Hi! I don’t know this fic, unfortunately. Sorry! Maybe one of my followers can help out. If not, merlin-finders is an active community on LiveJournal for finding Merlin fics, and you can ask there.
before you date someone, consider the following: would you want them in your party in a jrpg?
LET ME ELABORATE
will they have interesting dialogue? do you want to go on adventures with them? do your strengths and weaknesses work well together? can they effectively destroy your enemies with magic, swords, etc (or maybe they can heal you. thats cute too)
reblog if you knew a Horse Girl
Sunless Sea is free this weekend at Steam! It’s also on sale for $11.39.
I played through it once and immediately bought it. It’s really strange and absorbing. It’s based on Fallen London - so, Lovecraftian choose-your-own-adventure. The bulk of the gameplay is text-based, but you also sail a ship around, visiting ports, fighting creatures and other ships, and discovering stories, which you trade for benefits and gear.
You can choose whatever gender and title you like for your own character and romance men or women or both. So far I’ve discovered you can have a sweetheart in port as well as dally with some of your officers, but I don’t know if you can do both in the same playthrough (or what the consequences are). You can ignore all that, too, but it’s always so nice to have those options. You also choose your captain’s background, as well as the game’s winning conditions, which I thought was especially refreshing.
It’s an incredibly fun and open-ended kind of game, with an original world and a lot of memorable moments. Don’t let the permadeath thing scare you off; if you don’t like it, you can turn it off by manually saving the game at any time. I’m sticking with permadeath for now, but I’ll try it the other way if the game starts to feel repetitive (I doubt it will, since a lot of the NPCs and encounters are randomized each playthrough).
The free weekend allows you to play the full version, until Monday morning. I definitely recommend trying it.

2. Colony by Joy Division - “A cruel wind that bows down to our lunacy and leaves him standing cold here in this colony.”
3. Carnival by Mark Lanegan - “Trying to look like you just might know that all of the good that you’ve seen just went down and into the drain.”
4. When You Don’t See Me by the Sisters of Mercy - “You bought a mask; I put it on. You never thought to ask me if I wear it when you’re gone.”
5. Lights by the Sisters of Mercy - “Well, there have been better plans, but none that I could ever understand.”
6. Perfect Kiss by New Order - “Tonight I should have stayed at home, playing with my pleasure zone.”
7. Sheila Take a Bow by the Smiths - “Boot the grime of this world in the crotch, dear.”
8. Sometimes by Erasure - “Climb in bed beside me, we can lock the world outside.”
9. Troubled Times by Screaming Trees - “Troubled times and worry will turn your head away.”
10. Temple of Love by the Sisters of Mercy - “Crying, weeping will not save your faith for bricks and dreams for mortar. All your prayers must seem as nothing, ninety-six below the wave, when stone is dust and only air remains.”
No tags this time, but if anyone really wants to do this, please feel free!
Dr. Christine Putnam from the Whyborne and Griffin series!!!!
Friends let me tell you about this book series. If you love victorian era in America, gay wizards with anxiety, dashing charming ex-pinkertons, badass female archeologists who are Better Than You, fish warrior women, mystery, aliens, ancient gods, comparative philologists, WIZARD HUSBANDS, lots and lots of character development and fun shenanigans, please try this series. It’s so much fun. I love Christine so much. It has 7 books so far. I love them SO MUCH. PLEASE TRY IT
Christine is so AMAZING and BADASS and she’s SO DONE WITH THIS SEXIST SOCIETY she will PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE DONT THINK SHE WON’T. Seriously Christine is one of my absolute favourite characters ever, she tries so hard and is so good at her job despite having to fight against the society she lives in and she loves her friends so much but she has such a hard time showing it and her and Iskander are so precious I love them so much <333
PLEASE TRY THIS SERIES
Pratchett went back to older throwaway jokes (like dwarves being apparently unisex) and used them as metaphors to discuss social change, racial assimilation, and other complex issues, while reexamining the species he’d thrown in at the margins of his world simply because they existed at the margins of every other fantasy universe. If goblins and orcs and trolls could think, then why were they always just there to be slaughtered by the heroes? And if the heroes slaughtered sentient beings en masse, how heroic exactly were they? It was a long overdue start on redressing issues long swept under the rug by a parade of Tolkien successors who never thought of anyone green and slimy as anything but a notch on the protagonist’s sword, and much of the urgency in Pratchett’s last few books seemed to be related to them. “There’s only one true evil in the world,” he said through his characters. “And that’s treating people like they were things.” And in the last of his “grown-up” Discworld books, that idea is shouted with the ferocity of those who have only a few words left and want to make them count. Goblins are people. Golems are people. Dwarves are people, and they do not become any less people because they decide to go by the gender they know themselves to be instead of the one society forces on them. Even trains might be people, and you’ll never know one way or the other unless you ask them, because treating someone like they’re a person and not a thing should be your default. And the only people who cling to tradition at the expense of real people are sad, angry dwellers in the darkness who don’t even understand how pathetic they are, clutching and grasping at the things they remember without ever understanding that the world was never that simple to begin with. The future is bright, it is shining, and it belongs to everyone.
