Why I'm not a blogger ? Or at least regular blogger.

Well, I haven't written a lot on my blog for a few reasons and I might never ever have a blog in my life. This is not an excuse, but just an article to analyse this experience. Apart from the fact that I've been really busy those months (as everybody) with two shootings in march and a week in France (for family and friends) and a week in Dublin (for engage) in April, I think I don't have the soul of a blogger, neither a big interest in technology and especially in social media. I had sometimes the impression of being a very old man coming to the interactive media class. However, and especially because of that, they were really interesting and I think I kind of get the potential of it now. Still, twitter, Facebook, crowd-funding,blogs, they all seem to me very crowded, chaotic and random. Random about the success of anything. They permit from time to time to get a project off the ground, but still, it seems to me that most of the project being made this way are project with a star attached or some kind of already established company, or thing in the project. So I would say, it's an opportunity as any other. An other option to try to get a project made, with as many chances as trying to get subsidies or private funds. However, maybe the future main way of distribution... About the blog, I'd say that I'm not enough organized, and probably I don't want enough to be heard, to be able to sustain regularly a blog. For me Facebook is enough, and I don't write on it much. Don't even really look at the content, just a few that catch my eyes from time to time. I believe more in the face to face to get relations or projects, and to make them. Maybe, one day I'll have a blog, when I'll have the impression that what I say is valuable and that people would like to hear it. But for the moment, that's not the case. Anyway, that was an interesting class and experience, I'd say that they opened some perspective.

My Culture Plan - the business strategy

I’ve find my strategy on marketing the app. It’s not really complicated but it takes many steps. I’m gonna market the app as a MVP (minimal viable product). This way, the app won’t be a big lost investment if it doesn’t work. I’ll develop the app with only the browser, the news and the schedule. I think it’s the minimum to make a difference, and that really gives the base for the app. It’s still heavy, but I might save a lot. And then, I’ll add loads of other features, step after step, depending on how the app works regarding the audience.

My Culture Plan - problem.

My project proposal is about to be finished now. 

I’m facing a major problem. Well, at least in comparison with other problems.

I don’t know who provides the data for cultural releases and I don’t find anything on google. I don’t even know what to write to look for it. I’m probably short in vocabulary or I just don’t know how to name it. For the moment, I didn’t find anything relevant. At best statistical agencies about culture. However, I’m sure there’s a company or a governmental body displaying those informations. I can’t believe that The List or more specialized web sites as Screenrush, for example, have a big team gathering those datas. But maybe ?

So for the moment, I called the supposed displayer of those data “Governmental agency”.

Sources

The categories will be arranged into media sections : cinema / music / TV / literature / stage / exhibitions / festival / videogames. Do you think this enough ? (As it will be then refined into each categories). So now, the question is what are the sources I need to obtain the informations to fulfill these categories ? For cinema : Screenrush might be a great source of data on news and cinema’s programmes. Imdb for details about movies. What would be your suggestions for the other sections ? Where do you use to go to seek these informations ? iTunes may be useful for music, books and films. Songkick for live music. That’s what I have for the moment.

Culture plan week 2

App project introduction

Hi all, a quick introduction to my project (if you have ideas !). It will be an app used as a cultural plan, designed to improve your cultural knowledge. I don't know how far I can go with that, but I will present it for you in stages. Ideally, I'd like it to be as complete as possible. First stage : Schedule. As you would do with a sport plan, the idea is to set up achievable goals in a period of time. So, an activity and a frequency. Ex : a book a month, a new feature per week... Then, the app will generate a schedule of your activities and remind you your goals. When you have achieved a goal, you enter the title and informations related to your activity. The app will then be able to generate a track record of your activities. + : and what if, this is not your knowledge in film you'd like to improve, but your knowledge in French cinema ? Then, the app could have a very nuanced selection of activities. With maybe the possibility to create some ? Stage 2 : Finding informations. The problem is that everything is done manually, so it demands to the user to be serious. The app then needs to be connected to other apps as iTunes to improve the user's experience. The ideal would be to go through the first stage and then select your activity to be able to reach an online source. Ex : books -> iTunes library. You could then choose a book and buy it. The app will be able to schedule this particular book (with all its informations). This is even more relevant and useful for outdoor activities such as Live music, exhibitions, cinema... Which are limited in time. The schedule should be able to take in consideration these time informations. Stage 3 : Going further. It could be also very useful to be able to select informations about an activity to find new events or to be kept updated about something you like. Ex : you have just read a book and you'd like to find other books from this author, or be informed when a new one will be released ! Then, you will be able to 'like' this author and, on a different page, you'll receive your daily news about him, and everything you like. And of course, ready to be scheduled !

As a first article, I'd like to talk about something I'm interested in : Machinima. Most of you, probably wonder what is that ? 

Well, the word is the contraction of Machine-Cinema-Animation, at least that's what I heard, and is "the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production". In other words, that's (generally) the use of a video game to make a film (short, experimental,...) or feature ! Yes, I said feature. I came across this concept in a festival in Paris, very tiny festival but growing year after year. 

So, if you don't have money, contacts, or technical knowledge in animation, but time. That's a cheap way (almost free, except the computer, the game and sometimes another software) to make a film or to make a first draft of a project. Why not ?

For exemple, here's the link for (what seems to be) the first machinima feature called 'The Thrashmaster' produced by Mathieu Weschler, who dedicated two years of his life for it. The movie is in English (french subtitle, cause the guy is french) and uses Grand Theft Auto 4 as a rendering engines. The movie is good, so worth to see !
