the moment the other took the route of a guilt trip, avery felt a bit ashamed that he hadn’t bothered to think about the hard work that went into setting up the haunted house. his shoulders sagged slightly as he met gabriel’s gaze, “i doubt rory will really mind considering how many people have actually gone in there.” yes, he had been keeping track. he puffed his cheeks out slightly, “though if you’re willing to make it up to me…” he let his words trail off slightly. “but don’t begin to think that i need protecting.” he jabbed his finger against the other’s chest in a playful manner. “–and i totally don’t need my hand to be held but i think you’ll need to hold his.” he offered his stuffed bear’s hand out to gabriel, a smirk on his lips. would he actually take it? surely that amusement would distract him while he walked through the house.
gabriel couldn’t help but chuckle as the other continued to claim that he would be just fine, rubbing at the spot that avery’s finger had poked at. it looked like he would still have to watch some more movies with the other, but gabriel didn’t necessarily see it as a bad thing anymore. he shook his head as his attention was directed to the bear’s hand. he wasn’t really sure how this would help anyone, but he went along with it as he reached out to take a hold. “alright, if you say so. the bear is now in my care,” he claimed as he took his first steps toward the house. “this’ll be over in, like, literally a minute,” he said, both to sound confident and to ease the ‘bear’s’ mind.
