The way he just *clenches fist* makes water light up from the inside. Ugh, I once zoned out in front of one of his larger paintings in a gallery and came to, like, twenty minutes later, smelling saltwater and tasting driftwood.

This is his largest painting ever. It is 2,8×4,2 meters large. That is about 9'3"×14'1". It took him ten days to paint. This is a guy who painted normal-sized paintings in an hour, two, tops, according to contemporaries.

He was utterly unique.

my mom is helping me job hunt and when i told her my dream job is to sit in one place and sort stuff by color all day she made a really disgusted face and said “you want to work on a fucking assembly line?” like yeah

not to philosophize on your personal post or whatever but this really illustrates the problem with capitalism because there's literally nothing wrong with working in an assembly line—other than, of course, the way the workers are treated.

you (and me, let's be honest, because i would love to have a job like that) not only deserve to sort things by color all day but to also be treated with dignity and get paid a thriving wage for that work, and i am so very confused by why that's a controversial statement.

the best job i ever had was making cushions for packages out of tissue paper. just over and over and over again. i had the best time doing that. it just would have been nice if it wasn't ten hour shifts without air conditioning or seating.

"quiet quitting" is just "I do my job and I don't do the extra shit like, oh, say, unpaid overtime," oh no! poor employers! how dare employees have, gasp, boundaries!

This is actually “work to rule” and the whole “quiet quitting” thing is a corporate PR rebranding to make it sound like a bad thing, because “working according to the rules and doing what is specifically required of you” sounds totally logical whereas “quiet quitting” implies you are not doing your job correctly.

It’s different than malicious compliance, which is where employees follow procedures to an exact measure as a form of protest for bad working conditions.

The point (well, one of the points) of work to rule is to make systemic wage theft blatantly obvious. Anyone complaining about it is complaining that they’ve been stealing money from you and it got pointed out.

Let me say it louder: someone using the phrase “quiet quitting” to disapprove of work-to-rule either IS STEALING from you or is announcing they ARE WILLING TO STEAL from you.
