My partner makes stained glass. I keep asking him to make me a lamp but he's intimidated and wants to make some other 3d objects first. Now he's in a woodworking class for funzies but it'll also help with building frames for the stained glass. I asked for a lamp again but he's still not confident enough to make something that seems so delicate and I think he's just afraid of electricity in general. So I'm going to make my own lamp. I've got two ceramic jars I want to use and I spent the morning watching lamp wiring videos. I have to go to class now but I'm excited! It's not even going to be that costly.

I'm very bad at tumblr apparently. This is my third time trying to post 😞. But I am determined! And may switch to computer instead of phone in the future.

I made lamp progress! Drilled the holes in the pots yesterday and tested the wiring. It works! The next step is to make the lampshades and find bases.

Alrighty, finally logged in on my computer. Hopefully this'll go.

I successfully drilled holes in both little pots after making sure all the coconut oil was out. It was easier to do than I expected and nothing exploded!

I got two lamp kits from Ace Hardware for the wiring, and two harps (since they come separately). They had written and pictographic instructions, so it was pretty easy to follow. I wired one up to make sure I understood it, but I'm not really going to finish them until I have the shade and a base. There's a carpenter nearby that sells scraps for cheap and I'm going to try to stop in sometime this week. I also need two washers and nuts probably, to attach them to their bases.

I've got an idea for the lampshades, and a couple variations on that idea. The biggest issue will be finding a single sheet of paper large enough, but one of my backup ideas doesn't require that. I think it's going to be really pretty. But I need to prep for my meeting with the thesis advisor so I haven't worked on it yet.

And I have an idea for how to build the lamp shade skeleton. It would be a lot easier to get one already made, but there were none in walking distance and I didn't want to order anything online. I'm going to use a wreath base I got from some discount store and an earring I got on clearance, as well as some someone hard steel wire.

But I'm so pleased! This is making me feel capable and it's always nice to exercise creativity. I'll keep posting as I make more progress.

ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves

back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore

if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??

don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM

so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!

this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together

and then in the end you put it together like this!!

and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy

I've been feeling the urge to start something again. I'm in a busy semester and it's not a great time, but I keep finding myself thinking about starting a neocities or figuring out how to build a vcvrack cyberdeck. I'm already trying to make a wiki for my remote sensing class in obsidian but I want to make more things. I want to make so many things. But I'm also tired of half assing everything so I want to focus for a while. Maybe in the summer, if my thesis work isn't too daunting, I'll figure out how to make a cyberdeck.

Catch-22 is such a good book. I'm rereading it now after reading it for the first time in like 2004. I had a crush on Yossarian and imagined he looked like the guy I would occasionally hold hands with at the time.

I think I'm going to read "Something Happened" soon but I just got a book I've been waiting for from the library for a long time so it'll have to wait.

Ade floor desk the other day in hopes of making it more comfortable and inviting to play with the synths and so far it's been nice. I like turning things on and messing around for a while without an agenda. Like it's actually playful.

Saw a show last night with zlobmodular and had a good time.

I'm really digging the blowing bubbles noise coming out of the crave. I've got a lot to learn about the crave, I keep learning and forgetting how to use the sequencer. But it's fun to mess with even without that.

Maybe one day I'll make a post with actual good audio but probably not for a while. I like this on the fly feel.

One day I'll learn how to rotate pics / videos though
