What are some advantages revolvers have over handguns?
Revolvers have greater simplicity in controls, fewer moving parts, and are less prone to malfunctions. In some cases, the fixed barrels can lend them to being more accurate. It’s also much easier to design a practical revolver around a magnum cartridge than a semi-automatic handgun. Also, in a situation where you have to press the muzzle of your gun against the body of an attacker, it will still fire, unlike most semi-automatic handguns which won’t fire if the slide is pressed out of battery.
You can also fire the entire cylinder from an enclosed concealed position like a jacket pocket.
With an auto you get the first shot, but the spent cartridge can’t eject because of the cloth surrounding the gun.
Unless something snags on an exposed hammer.
I find the biggest benefit is teaching new people how to shoot. A revolver is pretty simple to load and fire: just stick rounds in the cylinder and close it and pull the trigger. There are MANY stores where people will pull the magazine out of a semiautomatic handgun, think it’s “unloaded” and pull the trigger, usually to the detriment of anyone the gun is pointed at.
