Henry’s babysitter had to go...damn!
Appropriate day to have her own things to do earlier than usual thinks Liv. Olive called her.. She told her something about Peter and to meet at Liberty Island as soon as possible and she said yes, of course it was good. Well not that Liv was a sort of so excited to meet her and Peter together but, after all, probably it was something about...she don’t know what this was. She just said yes, that’s it.
But lovely Helen told Liv she had to finish her working-time a little earlier, Liv called her to ask if she could be able to stay with Henry little longer than usual. “Shit!” thought and said Liv. Yes, shit. Never heard a lady saying shit? No you have.
Appointment was out of Liberty Island gate, half an hour after the call ended...not a lot of time. So Liv drove like a mad dog, skipping red lights and going through crossroads so quickly she even risked running over an old lady passing by. Heels were going to come to a grinding halt...let’s take your time Liv,she said to herself. Helen was already there, Henry’s holding her hand and his eyes were looking at his mother’s car, looking at her while walking towards them .
“Hello my little boy” Liv said
“Hello Ms. Dunham” Helen said “I’m very sorry for that, but I...”
“Don’t worry Helen I know you told me that last week, I just forgot it.”
LivI picked Henry up and made for the Bridge Place after hailing Helen and nodding to the guard at the gate.
“Come on, baby. I have to see someone you know.”she said smiling.
When at the detection post she looked for Salena, that police-woman that she knew to be crazy for Henry. Salena was so sweet to him and Liv knew that he liked her so much. She felt a little embarassed asking such a favor to her, but in the end she had to.
“Salena may I ask you a favor?”
“If it’s something related with your lovely beautiful son, my answer is always yes, you know that.”
“Oh thanks a lot. Well probably it’s not for so long, but. May you keep him here with you?
“Of course detective Dunham”
“Liv...just call me Liv.”
“I’ll be right back honey, “ Liv said to Henry “have to meet your dad...”
Liv entered in the Bridge Room. Olive was there and Peter was too.
Olive looked at her double, Peter and their baby. All this made her feel uncomfortable. It was not what she had in her mind and accusations of Peter hurted her, but in its stead she probably thought as he did.
“Hello Dunham”Olive said quietly “ I would like to talk with you alone”
“I’m here for that.” Liv replied “Let’s have a talk.” She continued then, nodding.
The two women go into a small room leaving alone Peter.
“I’m sorry I annoy you. I’m worring about Peter”
“Actually I imagined something like this even if...well I hoped you wanted just to talk with me, about you and me, you know.”
Olivia smiles at her double "To be honest I would also like to talk to you about many things. I don’t hate you anymore. I know that you wanted to save your world. I don’t like some methods, but I understand that we were at war. You're paying great cost what you did and I’m very sorry, believe me”
Liv stared at Olive. Was she actually getting what she was saying? Were real words those coming out of her mouth? She couldn’t believe it, but she did.
“So what’s the matter with Peter, Liv?”
“Do you remember when he used the Machine to create the Bridge? He saw something when he did it. He continues to have plenty of nightmares about this vision, but he doesn’t want to talk with me about this. I’m afraid for him. I’m afraid he might go insane”
“Do you think there’s a possibility he wants to speak about that with me? With us?” Liv put her hands into her jacket pockets and a sort of invisible fog hung over like an intangible material looming over them.
“I hope so Liv. I’m so scared... what are you doing?” She is terrified.
“So you think it would be better I speak with him alone?”
Olivia stared at her for a long time. She was like her. Both loved the same man. She was scared, but she was more worried about Peter “Yes, I think it’s better”
“So” Liv said “handcuffs off.”
“This isn’t an erotic games, even if I suspect something similar would have occurred among you and him.”
“Actually I don’t remember nothing like this” said live and a nasty smile appeared on her lips. “Oh...I’m sorry.”
She opened her right hand, palm up.
Olivia nodded and gave her double the keys “He is tough guy, you know him. I’m sure that he won’t speak so easily”
Liv approached Peter, turned around him on his back and took the handcuffs off.
“This situation would appear funny to you, I guess. Last time I said you hi, you were handcuffed.”
“Yeah. I remember that.” Liv smiled, then she went in front of him.
“Come and have a seat, please Peter. I’d like to speak with you, even if I imagine you don’t.”
“Olivia brought me here to make me confess something. And after then you appear. I’m not stupid, sweetheart. Olivia must be out of her mind if she thinks that you can succeed where she failed. I’m not going to talk.”
“Typical!” Liv said “See, she simply called me and told me there was a problem and I am worried about you.” She shook her head. “I know probably you don’t believe that. I’m almost sure of it and I don’t know how to make you aware of it. Look, Peter, I just want to speak with you about whatever you want to speak about. It’s not necessary you tell me about what’s happening right now, just speak.”
“If you want just talk to me, why am I here?”
“It was the closest place where to meet, I guess. Moreover I’m pretty worried about you and what is happening to you. I think I know you, maybe just a bit, maybe more than just a bit and I know you’ll try to keep everything inside until you’ll explode like a nova. I see it in your eyes, Peter.”
“This is some kind of bullshit written in your “Manual of deceiving a fool”, maybe? You know this isn’t going to work. You have already conned me once.”
“Yeah, it isn’t going to work, definitely. So how’s weather on that side? Is it cloudy, raining, is it a nice sunny day? What did you eat this morning at breakfast? What did you do yesterday evening? You want to speak about this, Peter?
“You just cut that crap off and tell me when I can come back home as a free man.”
“I have been waiting this question for months, Peter...you can come home whenever you want. You perfectly know that.”
“Your home is not my home, agent Dunham.”
“That’s a choice of yours, Mr. Peter Bishop. Do as you want, as always.”
Liv stood up. “Asshole” she whispered, getting close Olivia.
“I knew that Liv. He isn’t going to reveal anything more than his rage. Just take him home.”
Then she stood still for a moment, she looked back at Peter.
“Oh Peter” she said serious “There’s someone out who’d like to meet you. Just you and him, if you want.”
“I know Henry is here. Why did you bring him here with you?”
“Helen, the baysitter you know, had to go earlier today. Olivia called me and...well he’s here. You’re not obliged to see him if you don’t want to. So?”
“Sure! I want to see him. It’ll be the only good thing in all this madness ”
“Then go. You’re a free man.”
Peter smiled and ran toward his son. “Hey, kiddo, look who’s here now.”
