Many who live deserve death. Many who die deserve life. Can you give it to them Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death and judgement.
J.R.R. Tolkien; The Fellowship of the Ring (via mithrandir-the-maiar)
"You’re a good lad, Frodo. I’m very selfish, you know. Yes, I am. Very selfish. I don’t know why I took you in after your mother and father died but it wasn’t out of charity. I think it was because… of all my numerous relations, you were the one Baggins that showed real spirit."
LotR Alphabet - T for Time ’I wish it need not have happened in my time’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.’
How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart, you begin to understand, there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep…that have taken hold.
Sam perked up a little at Frodo's words, "Well, when the baby comes along I sure would like for you to help out, Mister Frodo..." He paused, "That is... iffen you want." he added a bit bashfully and glanced down.
"Oh! I would love some tea indeed." He grinned, "Mebbe we can get a nice walk about before then?" Sam gazed up at the sky. "It's a right lovely day."
Frodo looked up at the sky as soon as Sam did... it was a lovely day, that's why he had been out lounging by the tree. "A walk does sound nice." he said, smiling over at Sam. "And we'll head for tea afterwards."
He walked out on to the path and looked back, waiting for his friend to join him. "And I'd love to help with the baby, Sam. I only hope that I don't intrude."
"How do you pick up the threads of an old life?" ... {Frodo+Sam}
Sam clapped his hand on Frodo’s shoulder, “No need to be sorry.” He nodded, but his eyebrows raised at Frodo’s next words.
At the mention of Rosie, Sam wrung his hands together nervously, a sheen of sweat appeared on his brow. “She isn’t ready to have the baby, not yet, I’m told that is.” He stammered, “A few more months, that’s what Rosie says the healer said.” Sam sucked in a deep breath and peered up at the sky for a moment as if trying to compose himself.
“Oh! Everything’s fine.” Sam drew his attention back to Frodo, “Jus’ fine indeed. Rosie… Well she…” Sam trailed off and glanced sheepishly at Frodo, “She wanted some time to herself and some of her friends. She hasn’t seen them much since she left the Dragon you see.” Sam explained.
“And I’ve been hoverin’ over her.” He let out a quiet chuckle, “I don’ mean to, Mister Frodo… After what happened with Miss Diamond.” He sucked in another breath, he didn’t even want to think of it. He looked after Rosie to make sure she was comfortable, but Pippin doted over his wife too, yet they had lost their child. Sam thought of it sometimes and felt sick to his stomach. His heart ached for his friends and worry clouded his mind for his own wife.
Frodo placed a gentle arm on Sam's shoulder and shook his head. "I'm sure she loves the attention." he said, smiling. "Rosie knows you care for her... You need only give her a little space, I think. The baby will be here in no time, and you'll have a whole new concern to worry over."
Frodo wasn't sure he'd ever have children. It wasn't something that he thought about often... not even before the journey. He was always wrapped up in his books, and he was just recently becoming able to enjoy them again.
No, Frodo was nearly certain that no lass would ever truly be able to love him... and he knew that he would never be able to love her... not how a lass deserved to be loved. It didn't much matter anyways... Frodo wasn't the marrying type... he was a peculiar hobbit, and some would say he was turning into his Uncle. Not that he gave it much thought... Frodo was content to live his life the way he wanted to now... He'd earned that much.
He looked back at the trail to Bag End and then back to Sam. "Would you like to come over for a bit of tea?" he asked, trying to comfort his friend... It wasn't often that he was able to do this nowadays, and he hoped that keeping Sam's mind off of the things that could go wrong would ease his nerves.

"How do you pick up the threads of an old life?" ... {Frodo+Sam}
Samwise didn’t leave his smial much lately. Ever since he had found out his dear Rosie was expecting their first child, he was loathe to leave her side lest something happen while she wasn’t under his watchful eye.
But today, today had been different. Rosie had insisted Sam stay behind while she went off to the market with a few of her friends from the Dragon. Sam had reluctantly agreed. He knew their baby wasn’t due for another few months and he was certain that Rosie’s nice lass friends would look after her where he couldn’t.
The minute Rose, Sam wasn’t quite certain what to do with himself. He was always tending to his lass, making certain she was comfortable and happy. When he wasn’t looking after Rosie, Sam was tending the garden but today was different.
Today Rosie had left him behind and today Sam just didn’t feel in his heart the will the tend his precious flowers and vegetables.
It had rained the day before and Sam knew that nothing needed much watering and he had spent a great deal of time weeding yesterday morning before the rains. No. Today was not a day for the garden. But what, then? Sam found himself wandering aimlessly, though his feet followed a familiar path. At first, he thought he was walking wherever it was that he wanted, but soon he realized where his feet had taken him. Right to one of Mister Frodo’s favourite spots.
What luck! There was the hobbit in question. Sam’s steps quickened a bit to match his excitement of seeing his dear friend. Before Sam had a chance to call out, though, Frodo was standing and looking at Sam with a queer look in his eyes.
Sam’s face fell, he realized that he had startled Frodo and then he remembered things weren’t quite as they used to be.
“Aye, only me Mister Frodo.” He replied softly, casting his eyes down towards the ground, “I didn’ mean to cause you no alarm.” He added, trailing his eyes slowly up to make eye contact with Frodo.
Frodo walked up next to him and took another deep breath. "I'm sorry Sam. You startled me, is all. It isn't that difficult to do these days." He looked around at the beautiful scenery that he had been so peacefully admiring, and then back to his friend, realizing how happy he was to be in his company.
"What are you doing out here?" he asked with a small smile. "Isn't Rosie about ready to have that baby yet?" he said, softly nudging the other hobbits shoulder. Sam had been so excited when he had discovered that he and Rosie were to be expecting a child, and Frodo was just as excited.
He wondered why Sam was out and about, without his dear wife... They hadn't left each other's side since her pregnancy... "Is everything alright?" he asked suddenly, his mind automatically thinking the worst as it usually did...
After Pippin and Diamond's traumatic loss... he knew that the Shire couldn't take another.
"How do you pick up the threads of an old life?" ... {Frodo+Sam}
Frodo sat underneath his favorite tree, in his favorite spot in the Shire and tried to clear his mind for a while. Ever since they’d returned he’d done nothing but try and get back to normal… But it was difficult… You can’t pretend that those things never happened, even though many in the Shire still refused to believe the tales. Frodo tried his best to be rid of most of the memories. He had very few nice ones to look back on.
But, still is was a pretty day, and the flowers were just coming into bloom. He sat there and thought of this friends. Pippin had already married and had two babies, with more on the way, he was certain that dear Diamond would stay pregnant forever… he chuckled to himself as he thought of that. The two had a beautiful family, and that was more than he could say for himself. Sam and Rosie were married and expecting their first baby, and Merry was off gallivanting with some lass named Estella. Things we’re going well for his friends, and he couldn’t help but smile as he thought of how well life had turned out for them.
Then he began thinking of himself and that question that he had so wisely asked himself before. “How do you pick up the threads of an old life?” It was a question that he had not yet found the answer to, and he didn’t know If he ever would.
He was quickly distracted from his thoughts as he heard someone come walking up behind him… though he was back home, and he knew there was nothing more to fear, he still had a horrible paranoia trait that haunted his every thought. He quickly stood and turned around, facing whoever it was that bothered to disturb his peace… only to find his dear friend, Samwise.
“Oh, Sam… it’s only you.” He said with a deep breath, smiling as he stepped closer.
