So I have this tortoise, named Frodo. I haven't really shared much of how I got him. So heres the story. My pet-crazy uncle lived with us for a few months about two-three years ago. And brought with him 3 cats and this little guy. He lived in a cardboard box filled with kitty litter in our bathroom. I didn't really know much about tortoises, and to be honest, he creeped me out. My uncle had to go away for a few days and I was told to feed him. And so I did. So what he gave me was iceberg lettuce, which he had been eating for years and years. After a few feedings I figured that this little guy had a funny personality. After I got more comfortable with him I let him roam around in the bathroom as I fed him by hand.
I got curious and googled tortoises and figured out what to feed him, what kind of enclosures they should have, what food supplements and lighting they should have. (He didn't even have an available water source!) He had none of this. I got frustrated when I also found out that his pyramiding was pretty bad.
Some time went by and I only managed to get some tree-bark and a bigger box to keep him in and bought proper food for him. He seemed more energetic and loved the attention!
When my uncle moved out he couldn't bring him with, I don't remember why, but I kept him for a few months, and when he wanted him back I told him that he would have to pay me back for all of the food, supplements and equipment. In norway, pet stores really overprize this kind of stuff. And he refused to pay me back and told me I could keep him. (My uncle is an alcoholic asshole btw.)
This was perfect for me. I really care for Frodo and I've tried for YEEAARS to find a pet I'm not allergic to!
Whoa, this was really long, but yea. His pyramiding stopped and he is a happy, energetic little troublemaker.
