Hello! I am a 27yo ace and enby engineer and scientist living in the UK. I love cool engineering feats along with mythology, fantasy and sci-fi. Not forgetting various amphibian creatures and extravagant headgear, or even frogs in extravagant headgear. I am currently a roboticist in the fusion industry as well as trying to write too many novel ideas and learn too many languages at the same time.

The Club-Winged Manakin, a small bird from South America, has a fairly unique way of producing non-vocal sounds. It vibrates its wings to stridulate and make a vibrating sound in a similar way to some insects. It sounds like a small buzzer peeping.

I have just discovered that Hugo Gernsback, a Luxembourg futurist and inventor of the turn of the 19th century, known for creations such as the isolator helmet

, a concept for personal television goggles

and a sea-going Ferris wheel (among other inventions)

was also the creator of the grandfather paradox! That well-known time-travel conundrum of going back in time and killing a relative, bringing into question whether you would ever have been born. He also came up with a concept for radar and tele-operated medical robots. He STARTED science fiction fandom and potentially even coined the phrase "science fiction". Truly ahead of his time and not a name known nearly enough!
