Did my laundry this morning and then decided to reward myself with a trip to a thrift store I haven't visited in a long time. Got some great scores on CDs, which was almost all I looked at. 7 for $7! Pretty darn good.
And some of them in great condition. Almost untouched, seemingly. You do have to check, tho. Saw a few I would have loved to have grabbed, but were beat to hell : (
Reeally stressed my knees, apparently, crouching and squatting for ... maybe an hour? Getting too old for this 'going thru bins on the floor' shit.
All the Christmas music you could ever want (more on that later). They even had a small cassette tape section. Saw a Vangelis tape I would have liked, with a bunch of his movie themes. But I don't have (or need) a tape player. Even saw a CD single, which I would have grabbed had it not been scratched up : (
Yes, the famous Macarena! This is the one gag CD I would have grabbed, if it was clean. Sadly, no dice : ( Bright colors, though. That's a purple on orange disc. The 90's were wild.

Old UK CD, made in West Germany. Love the EMI Laser DRM logo. Their "DRM" can't mean what we mean by that now. Wonder if it stands for something like "Digital Record Mastering"? Or "Digitally Re-Mastered"? Can't remember the last time I saw a white CD insert – those look dirty real easy : / This was an impulse buy, because I thought that Albinoni piece was something else. Still, probably some track on here worth keeping. A side note to anyone who has this disc, alcohol will take the printing off the front : (
John Williams conducts the Boston Pops in a bunch of Christmas stuff. Normally I avoid Christmas music like the plague, but I like John Williams, and there's one thing on here that caught my eye. See if you can guess what it is. (Another impulse buy, tho in great shape, and I thought it might be culturally important. Sort of.)
Classical Thunder II! OK, a gimmicky impulse buy, but I don't think I've ever seen another one of these in the wild. For as strongly as the TV commercial for this set and "Pure Moods" are imprinted on my brain, you'd think they'd have sold more. Like every thrift store in America should have at least 3 of them, along with the mountains of Yanni and Kenny G and all the generic classical & Christmas stuff they always have in woeful abundance.
And look who they got to write their liner notes, the Washington Post's classical music critic! He did a decent job! Also, apparently "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana didn't make the cut for Classical Thunder I?
December by George Winston. This one was a gamble – scratched pretty badly and I will have to delete any track rips that are corrupted. But I haven't listened to it yet. Really hoping there's some clean tracks in here. I really like and highly recommend his "Variations on the Kanon by Johann Pachelbel." I've had that for years – nice piece of classical, calming music, and I love the Canon in D. So, high hopes for this CD. I was amused to see that Winston apparently likes the Charlie Brown Christmas album. And "The Snowman" – when was the last time you thought about that?
Vangelis' Mythodea – music composed for NASA's 2001 Mars Odyssey orbiter space probe. Beautiful case / insert art and a metallic gold print on the CD. Having just listened to this, it's very ... operatic? Got him some human singers and everything. The liner notes booklet for this thing is seven damn panels long, 14 "pages" if we're counting it like that, but all accordion folded up, not a stapled booklet. Very ... awkward.
A Roger Whittaker album of Irish songs. I think he's singing Star of the County Down too slow. Hard to find Rodger Whittaker on CD, but it was worth a buck to see if these are OK.
Andrea Bocelli's Romanza. Everyone's mom had this, right? This has the breakout hit duet Time to Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman. Vivo Per Lei and Con Te Partiro are also excellent, in my opinion. Already have those songs, but worth a buck to see if there are any others I might like.
