Of course I had to get you something, it’s your birthday and you’re a far better gift giver than I am… So, here’s my sad attempt at matching your skill. Happy Birthday. [inside the package is a cookbook she knows will make him smile - the “I hate to cook book” as well as a small keychain with a map that’s charmed both to show you your location and, when you flip it over, give you directions to anywhere you need to go]
Sad attempt. I’m certain you aren’t giving yourself enough credit. [He took the package and opened it, laughing as he pulled out the cookbook and then grinning as he examined the keychain.] As usual, I’m right. These are fantastic. Thank you.

I understand. It’s standard procedure. We can't exactly make instant determinations on who made an honest mistake and who might be aiding the cause at hand or trying to take the law into their own hands.

Perhaps it would be if we didn’t spend an absurd amount of time with our noses buried in books. Maybe if the curriculum taught more offensive spells then we would have the capabilities to get things done. Perhaps if we didn’t tell students who failed exams that they were stupid all while praising the ones who can turn a mouse into a teapot. When the hell am I going to need to do that?
Learning how to turn a mouse into a teapot is the first step to being able to transfigure yourself into something which could camouflage you and save your life. I won’t argue that I think that the curriculum should be updated. However, I don’t think that teaching offensive spells at a young age is wise. A stronger emphasis on defense. I cannot picture a time where defense against a werewolf is taught at Hogwarts though. That is not only advanced, but dangerous for a skilled wizard.

Willing and not too busy is looking to be the key combination. If you’re really up for it though, I need my bag. They said I’d get it back whenever they let us go from the holding cells, but I didn’t notice that didn’t happen til I got home and didn’t have keys to get into our apartment.
Well, you found it in me. I’m certain. [He nodded in understanding.] It should be down in the evidence room. I’m sure we can get it for you and get you on your way before much more of your day is spent stuck here.
