INCINERATION 2020: FIRST FOUR BANDS ANNOUNCED!

Saturday, May 9th 2020 is the day... when one of the most sought after extreme metal festival INCINERATION FEST returns to take over the city of London promising nothing but total mayhem. The first announcement says it all: Swedish destroyers BLOODBATH and veterans death masters VOMITORY are two of the very four band announced, together with TSJUDER and LUCIFER’S CHILD.

MY NEW  VERY FAVORITE ALES!

It’s hard, very hard to choose once favs when your palate becomes so spoiled by the many great options  of fine ales at REAL ALE, my favourite supplier of my favourite drink. But I think I have now made up my mind.

After years of resisting the invitation to try sour  ales, I got curious about the Anura Imperial Blueberry Berliner Weisse, an all vegan 7% awesome sour beautifully brewed by WANDER BEYOND BREWING  in Manchester. I must plan a visit there soon as I must meet the brewers behind this fantastic drink. It’s sour enough to make you enjoy the summer more, as I suggest to drink it pretty chilled. And from the first sip, there is an explosion of blueberry  in the mouth that makes every sip  it really unique. Thumbs and bottom UP to many more Anura to drink!

...and of course I had to try the one NORTHERN MONK I hadn’t tried  yet. Also vegan friendly, the  Omega Vortex was born in co-operation with OTHER HALF and EQUILIBRIUM two all american breweries.  It tastes bold and strong,  the way I like my double IPA, but it has  that american kick that makes it crispier and even more enjoyable. 8.7%  starts getting stronger even for me so it’s nice when drank slowly  to enjoy every nuance. It basically has my  favourite hops, mosaic and citra and there is more. the graphics! The label is simply outstanding, thanks to the magnificent artwork of Tankpetrol (www.tankpetrol.com). I know, I am not supposed to judge a can by it’s label but once you see it, you will know..

Tons Of Rock prelude:  the fab festival organisers gave us a grand tour of the venue, splendidly located in Ekeberg,  just outside Oslo City Centre. As we sat down to chat and listen to the organisers’ panel delivering interesting festival insights, we were offered their custom made pilsner, Tons Of Pils.

I have never been a big fan of pilsners but this one..  definitely one to have under the scorching festival sunshine. Fresh and crispy, it goes down really welI.

I did not gather too much information on the % content and brewery so I will do this today... and report.

Norway strikes again:  my newly found favourite sour ale

I’ve always been an IPA/DOUBLE IPA fan but recently, thanks to my awesome suppliers at Real Ale in Richmond, I’ve found myself craving and enjoying sour  ales.  As I am here in Oslo for few days to report on Tons Of Rock, I have decided to dedicate one/two paragraphs a day to my ale of choice, which must be strictly Norwegian.  I arrived  at the hotel where all media reps meet earlier than expected today so perfect timing to venture at the Vinmonopolet in the City centre. I immediately went to my beloved Amundsen section, just realising that I already know most of  their amazing creations (they still are one of my favourite Brewery worldwide - Sunday, my last day here, will be spent at their Bryggery & Spisery enjoying one of their seasonal draft). I just wanted  to try something truly Norwegian but new. Lost in a multitude of unknown bottles and cans, I asked a very polite and true connoisseur/shop assistant. I mentioned I  was newly interested in sour ales so he kindly directed me with confidence to the Lindheim Olkompani section where he grabbed a fine looking bottle of the Farmer’s Reserve Pure, showing it to me with plenty of viking pride.

Price was a bit too high  (155 NOK) but since I am not a heavy drinker, I had decided to treat myself with “the one”. 

And it was  definitely “the one” for the day: the Farmer’s Reserve Pure is an adorable, yet fairly strong (7.5%) sour ale, purely spontaneously fermented (hence with no lactose which means I am a happy vegan) ale, fun and funky. The aged hops are this awesome sour best quality:  the aftertaste is strong and defined as a true sour should have. And  the malted barley gives a bit of a smoky taste. What a combination!

Absolutely one to remember... and to try again.
