why does my caladium act like she is starving for light. hang on

every day i ahve to reposition the damn lamp cuz she’s dead set on sticking her first leaf Right The Fuck In There and i don’t want her to burn. but every day i come home from work and she has closed the distance anyway. bestie PLEASE cooperate with me

i finally caved and moved her to the windowsill but this has clearly not satisfied her because she still presses that leaf RIGHT up against the glass

apparently instead of actually growing new leaves in order to increase her light intake she’s decided that these are PERFECT conditions to flower in

general catch-all for everyone who has commented on and/or reached out to me regarding this post:

yes i know the window cling blocks some of the light. unfortunately it’s a necessity since these windows take up an entire wall of my bedroom and face out towards the neighbors and i have no windowshade. the upper panels of the windows don’t have clings on and function just fine as indirect light, which is what most of my plants require. i have grow LEDs for my high light plants, but they’re on a timer and coincidentally have not been on for any of these pictures

caladium are ‘supposed to be’ shade plants which is why im baffled as to why she’s doing this. she does have supplemental light aside from the window though it just wasn’t on in these pics

her roots are fine, the soil conditions are fine, so it’s probably not stress. this is a fresh growth from a tuber i got as extras from my dads garden so i’m assuming the mother plant was old enough to flower despite this particular offshoot only existing for a couple months. WHY she chose to flower instead of putting out more leaves only god knows. it could be that because i was watering her with old fish tank water she was getting an excess of nutrients? i dunno. she baffles and confuses me. i’ve never had a plant behave this way. maybe she’s just quirky
