Jordan saw Luke be mistreated, abused, drugged, and brainwashed and didn't say anything for who knows how long and was ready to do anything for that number one spot.

Yes they changed, yes they evolved, but they did do these things. And that's what we call a complex character and good writing.

Marie used her powers on her friends not to attempt a genocide, but in an attempt to save them. She made mistakes. She's a complex character. Anyone coming into my posts or going to the tags and being weird about her will either get blocked if I'm in a good mood or cussed out if I'm in a bad mood.

We can't keep asking for complex characters and turning on them the second said complex characters are black. We also can't keep celebrating straight white boys for being morally complex and taking queer black girls down for being morally complex. And interesting. And hot. And having the best powers I've ever seen in a fantasy story ever. And hot. And amazing. And she can't do no wrong actually she made zero mistake argue with the wall. If anything she should have gone harder. And I stand by her. Fuck anyone who disagrees.

someone smarter than me needs to write about the significance of Marie’s parents, a Black couple, being unknowingly exploited by a corporation with roots in nazism and white supremacy. something something new drugs being tested on vulnerable populations without informed consent… I really like how they’re exploring the vought being started by nazis plot line in more depth in gen v.

Marie’s backstory is so significantly different than the others, whose (non-black) parents CHOSE to expose their kids to compound V like Emma, Starlight and Jordan. I can’t help but think this is deliberate.

Also kudos to the boys universe again for talking about pink washing and tokenization of the LGBT community. Derek’s acting in that scene really sold how painful it was for Jordan to say those lines.

its like. the greek myths have a tremendous level of influence on our art and philisophy and storytelling and are told time and time and time again. and yet they are so complex and perhaps some of the most misinterpreted and confounded of all stories. everyone has their own twist on them and what they mean, theyre never told the same way twice and exactly how theyre told tell us less about the myth than the person behind it (looking at you homer).

and art is the visual manifestation of peoplehood, its what draws us to the museums and exhibitions and makes its way to our notebooks and desktop backgrounds and gift shop mugs. but art is often so so often overlooked and watered down into “something thats nice to look at” instead of like. a snapshot of life at a moment. abstract art is just “lines and rectangles,” The Black Square is just that, but no one looks close enough to notice the pinks and blues and yellows in its cracks.

and so hoseok makes use of the myths to discuss destiny and his place in a narrative. he turns the pandora myth on its head and makes defines hope outside of the box. hope as something confusing and sometimes painful but that we ourselves need to define. he himself defines what hope is to him, what J-Hope means.

and namjoon uses art and his love for a medium so impersonal to him to explore those feelings of exhibition. putting himself up behind a glass casing and having to sit still still still so that he can keep being seen even though its barely belong to him anymore. but being resigned to it and coming to terms with that parasociality through another love outside of what RM has been define by.

they both use these culturally significant themes to explore identity and their place within something bigger and fame and freedom and fate and agency. redefining what they represent, so they can be redefined too. think outside the box vs paint outside the frame. a watered-down myth vs a still life photograph. so on and so forth.
