Helmut Lang Parfumerie
81 GREENE STREET, NEW YORK, NY
Gluckman Mayner Architects, 2001
The 3,100 sq. ft. space houses the Designer’s fragrance line. The narrow entry is emphasized by a Jenny Holzer installation, mounted as part of an enameled steel wall. Descending along the wall is a mirror-image double stair leading to the product development offices below. Directly opposite the installation wall, a tall black cabinet recalls the monolithic merchandise boxes at the Flagship store, redefined by a narrow glass-lined slot to complement the products. Visible from the street, a full-height translucent glass wall creates a luminescent backdrop to the product cabinet.

We talk about Naomi lasting for ages and ages in the biz but Alek Wek is still going strong after a couple of decades herself. She deserves as much adoration and credit!
