Upon realizing the familiar face was in fact familiar because she’d known Malik for over a month already, Brinlee couldn’t help laughing gently at herself for a moment as she shook her head. If she hadn’t been sure before that her mind was not in the best shape at the moment, she knew now. “Definitely for the best. I’m not sure I would be able to make it through a session today.” She admitted with a smile as she took another sip of her coffee in hopes that drinking it faster would wake her up a little more.
As he accepted her offer though, her tired smile grew as she nodded. “Okay, great. Do you have anywhere in particular you’d like to go? If I’m being honest, I didn’t actually have a place in mind yet.” There were probably over a dozen restaurants nearby that she knew had a decent brunch menu, but she was always happy to let whoever she was with pick the place so she could be sure they’d like the food.
his head shook, his lips splitting into a smile, eyes falling to the ground before finding hers again. “ i know a place. ’ the movement his made with his head suggested she follow him, but he quickly threw it over his shoulder to look at her. “ what you want? ’ he was leading them out of the hotel, his thumb pressing the button to unlock his car. malik pulled open the passenger door for her, stepping behind it so she could get in.

After a 4:30AM start and a near nine hour straight shift, Ronnie was thankful to be leaving the lab a bit earlier than she had been planned. Whether it was the exhaustion of moving to a new hotel or having to relocate all of her personal belongings in her new lab across town, she wanted nothing more than to melt into a cup of cold brew. As Ronnie waited at the end of the bar for her coffee, still dressed in her white lab coat and cherry red heels, she barely took notice as someone stepped up beside her. When her name was called, she grabbed her cup and turned quickly- immediately dumping her iced coffee all over the other person, “Oh my god,” a flush spread across the scientist’s cheeks, “Oh my god, I’m so sorry- I wasn’t even paying attention.” Ronnie grabbed a stack of napkins from the counter, “Oh god- here- I’m so sorry, I wasn’t even paying attention. I knew I could use a coffee but I didn’t think it’d end up all over someone else.”
“ this wasn’t exactly what i had in mind when i thought of grabbing a coffee. ’ crackling a smile as he laughed it off. “ at least its a cold one. ’ malik grabbed the napkins from her and placing them back down on the bar. “ those won’t help now, but listen — ’ his hands extending to her. “ your good. i don’t have to go back to the office today, and my hotel is just around the corner. no harm, no fowl. ’ his hand raising as the barista called out his name. he leaned over the counter, one hand cupping his hot drink. “ hey, can you make her another iced, — ’ his head turned to her. “ what did you have exactly? ’

one o’clock in the morning was the best time to go to the gym in taline’s opinion, it was quiet and void of anyone who would often stare at her body rather than do their own workout. a big smile appeared on her face when she walked into the hotel’s twenty-four hour gym and found it empty again. that meant she could choose whatever music she wanted to play over the gym’s speakers. she decided tonight’s soundtrack would be lizzo, turning on her bluetooth from her phone so the music would blare from the audio system.
before she made her way to the treadmills, she took off her jacket so she was left in her pink tank top and proudly let her toned body show. now that she was ready, she jumped onto one of the many treadmills the gym offered and began with a slow jog. just as she was preparing to go for a full run, she heard the heavy doors of the gym close shut. she jumped at the sound and turned to see a man walking her way. he was attractive, with his dark hair and matching eyes. taline wasn’t about to complain about having her peace interrupted if it meant some free eye candy. however, looking over at the new face distracted her and made her stumble on the treadmill. her quick reflexes made it easy to recover from the embarrassing stumble, but she couldn’t help the fact that her heart was beating ten times faster than before. knowing that the other probably saw her trip on the revolving belt, taline looked over at them, giving them a small smile. “sorry about that. i didn’t expect anyone else to be here at this hour.” // @ftmalik·
airpods in ear, malik shuffled through his spotify until he found his workout playlist. he was a little earlier then his standard workout regime which varied between four and five in the morning. but with his break from school, he was dedicating more time to the business — the realization of how badly his absence had affected the team had his mind so racked he couldn’t sleep.
the last thing he expected was to see someone else in here, especially at this hour. he had to appreciate her dedication though. he offered a smile in her direction — pulling out one pod and quickening his footwork towards her as he caught sight of her slip on the belt. “ are you… apologizing to me for slipping? ’ a coy smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “ your good, i didn’t think i’d see anyone either, but — i admire the dedication. ’
