Even tho i like billy joel and i like rock n roll just fine i like little richard i actually generally do not fuck w 80s rock n roll revival stuff at all its so cowardly and swamped with nostalgia its annoying

And i do absolutely understand that bj is doing the same exact shit in a lot of his songs like i cannot listen to keeping the faith without cringing the entire time. Half a mile away is a lot better musically but if im caught in the wrong mood w it im like dude fucking shut up

But the thing that hooked me and keeps me coming back to him is his use of names in his songs. The songs he writes are about specific, named people. Relationship songs that aren't about the singer but the named person and explicitly deny the ability to make them about everybody.

Its something I really appreciate in Ryoko Kui's dungeon meshi this sense of loving people and the relationships between them. Not just writing to talk about yourself but writing to talk about the connections between people and the forms they take.
