Sitting on a bench in Madison Square Park, I fed a small piece of the bagel I was eating to an equally small bird.

“Thank you,” the bird said to me with the piece of bagel in its beak.

“Don’t talk with your mouth full,” I said to the bird.

The bird rolled its eyes then hopped into the bushes to have its way with the piece of bagel.

“This is why I have no friends,” I said to the park bench I was sitting on.

But the park bench ignored me.

It was still mad at me from earlier in the day

when I told the park bench it was looking chubbier than usual.
