The change of the internet is insane like I used to come home when I was 17 and sit at my computer in my bedroom and scroll through Tumblr for hours on end. Now I’m 30 in a few months and I scroll through tiktok for ten minutes every few hours and Instagram and now there are algorithms so I always see the same shit over and over instead of when I used to be on here just trying to blog the best possible photos of Sara Quin and being so happy with 300 notes on a screenshot of an obscure interview where she had a ponytail… very different feeling to making a random trauma related tiktok that got 600k likes… anyway
IMDb TV has found its leads for High School, a coming-of-age dramedy series based on the memoir by Tegan and Sara Quin, from Housebroken co-
Discovered via TikTok by Canadian indie pop duo Tegan and Sara themselves, TV newcomers and twins Railey and Seazynn Gilliland have been tapped as series leads, portraying the high school versions of Tegan and Sara. Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer will also guest star in the series, playing the twins’ parents. High School will start filming on March 21 in Calgary, AB.
I can’t believe how incredibly out of the loop I am considering I used to live and breathe Tegan and Sara and also I love that I can log in to tumblr after like 1-2 years and find out fabulous news like this

@rainymeadows
ppl try to defend creepy age gaps of barely legal girls and grown men like "my parents age gap is bigger than that!!" and "my dad met my mom when she was 17 and he was 28!" like okay then your dad is a creep too tf
I’m gonna sound like an OAP but I really don’t get the phrase ‘fuck with me’ to literally mean having sex. It sounds so stupid. It used to mean, don’t mess me around or try your luck or lie, like ‘don’t fuck with me’ after someone lied to you. Or ‘I wouldn’t fuck with him’ would be a warning not to mess someone around or trick them.... saying ‘fuck with’ to mean ‘fuck’ just sounds idiotic to me... my age is showing
My colleagues are so fuckin stupid and I don’t know whether to blame them individually or blame Society™
Me: you see a relationship needs to be mutually beneficial. If you’re both not getting something you want it’s a bad relationship.
47 y/o man with 3 kids:
Real conversation I had with my dad
Me: I don’t personally understand the desire to have children, or why do many feel like failures when they’re unable to
Dad: (in that voice that indicates he thinks he’s about to drop some real Knowledge™️ on me) well you have to understand; if you reach a certain age and don’t have children, people will look at you weirdly. Nobody wants that
Me: …You’re saying you were peer pressured into having a baby? Like you were afraid of being “the weird kid” except you were a grown man with a job? Do you think that’s a good thing?
Dad:
I had a similar conversation with my mom a little while ago. I was saying that I’m not keen on having kids or getting married and she was like “well I didn’t want either of those things but then I met your father and it was just the natural steps forward”. Having my sister and I was just the natural step forward??????
Honestly, it really fucked me up a lil you know? Like my mom always goes on about how their lovey dovey marriage was basically over after five years of them being together. I was born five years after they got married?????? Just ahhhhhhhh it really messed me up inside.
I don’t want to get married because that’s the natural step forward, I don’t want kids because that’s what married people do. If I get married or have kids in the future it’s going to be because I want to, not because it’s what society thinks I should do.
Hmm... I don’t know for sure what your mum meant obviously as I was not there, but I think ‘natural steps forward’ might not be as negative as you think. I think when you deeply love someone, after a while you can get the deep urge to have their baby, for me this is the case. I felt it with my first boyfriend after 4/5 years (but was too young), I felt it with my husband also, a pull to go ‘forward’, to commit more, to join together and commit your love to a child (or 3 in my house!).
Marriage is good and weddings are great but I hate modern wedding culture. You don’t need to bankrupt yourself to have a nice wedding. Stop supporting the wedding industry, stop buying outrageously priced engagement rings, stop spending 10k on a dress you’ll only ever wear once.
Coming from a professional event planner - weddings are egregiously expensive because companies openly raise prices at the word “wedding.”
Pro Tip - Never drop the word wedding while planning if you don’t need to. Most things can be for “an event you’re planning.” This obviously doesn’t include things like the venue, DJ (who needs specific wedding songs), and the wedding dress company if you’re going that route versus just buying a dress.
For my wedding I got “discounted” cupcakes, flowers, decor, bridesmaids dresses, groomsman attire, and invitations. I did this by either searching for things that aren’t marketed for weddings or not telling the companies I was working with it was for a wedding. Because honestly, most of the time they don’t need to know why you’re ordering.
These companies target people planning their weddings and markup everything the second “wedding” is said. And it’s said often because people assume the services change exponentially for weddings. They absolutely do not.
The best example are the cupcakes I had for my wedding. I used a designer cupcake store in town instead of spending $1000 on a wedding cake. If you place a large order of cupcakes with a cake tree for display - it costs about $150 for 100 (which is what I did). When you order their “wedding” package - the price raised to a $700 base for 100 cupcakes. The only other perk includes a “tasting.” Forget that. Our tasting was buying a few cupcakes in flavors we thought we’d like and picked three. It cost maybe $20.
What these companies do is scummy and targets people who don’t have information about the event industry.
I will yell it from the rooftops until people realize there’s a better way.
Hello. I’m a photographer and know a lot of people in the wedding industry.
Just wanted to add to this that it’s not always true. Especially the cake thing. A lot of wedding cake bakers only do wedding cakes, it’s competitive and the cost of business is high. That is why they charge a lot. That is actually kind of why everyone charges a lot if they’re in the wedding industry. You need to pay your bills. And your website costs, insurance, advertising... imagine only getting 10-20 jobs a year and needing to also live. You’d need to charge a bit. Let alone if you’re paying yourself a wage as well.
Also! I just got married and let me tell you something else 😂 I spent £30 on my dress. We spent £80 on his suit. Only £100 on the cake. We made all our centrepieces. The bridesmaids bought their own dresses. I did the invites on vistaprint. We hired a PA system instead of having a DJ and just plugged my iPad into it. It was as hippyish and DIY as we could get.
The cost?
Around £14,000.
(Of his family’s money and on credit cards!)
The only way I can imagine we could’ve made it really really cheap would be to have had it somewhere ugly, not decorated it, not fed anybody, had half the amount of guests... this is your big day and you want to remember it always. I do not advocate spending that kind of money on it but it some ways it’s so hard not to. We definitely had things I wouldn’t have chosen to have but my MIL wanted. For example button holes. But you try shaking tradition when you have so much family, who are paying for it because you rent because you’re a, dare I say it, millennial, and they expect to be respected with things like that.
TLDR; It’s really fucking hard man so let people spend what they want and don’t keep pushing the idea that everyone hears ‘wedding’ and plucks some random high number out of the air.
me whenever i have a cold: i can’t remember the last time i could breathe out of my left nostril…it must have been 14 years ago when i was a child on the farm..life was simpler back then….. i remember the sound of the creek over by that big rock.. when papa came home from the town bearing fresh yeast for ma to make bread with, i breathed in the crisp fall air through both nostrils before heading into the kitchen, where i could smell all of our spices
”Will you marry me?” Is a marriage proposal.
”Will, You, Mary, Me” is a foursome proposal.
I mean this reminds me a LOT of that will and grace episode where Grace forces her boyfriend to explain what order he will be sitting at the table with her, Will and Mary, then once he finally says it in the order she wanted - Will, You, Mary, Me - she says YES I WILL!

Shengsi, an archipelago of almost 400 islands at the mouth of China’s Yangtze river, holds a secret shrouded in time – an abandoned fishing village being reclaimed by nature. These photos by Tang Yuhong, a creative photographer based in Nanning, take us into this lost village on the beautiful archipelago.
