September 14th, 2016 Designer Fred Mèzidor presents his Senior Thesis collection, STRANGEfruit, as apart of the RISD Apparel runway show for New York Fashion Week. âSTRANGEfruit is a contemporary menswear collection inspired by the concept of cultural appropriation of black culture. Historically, Black culture is one that has been exploited and appropriated for its âcoolnessâ, its âurban-nessâ when deemed suitable by dominant institutions. From hair to body image to accessories to music, Black culture is described as strange, bad, uncivilized only until it is presented through or âdiscoveredâ by non-Black bodies. The world loves black culture, but not its people or the stigmas attached to their skin. A collection of individual statements, the pieces draw inspiration from historical representations of Blackness in America dating back as early as the 19th century to the current #BlackLivesMatter movement. The silhouettes draw heavily from the gender fluidity of the 1970âs with references to the bold displays of proportion and color of the 1990âs.  Seeing charms and embellishment as not only an integral part of Black cultural display, but also as a means of communicating information, the pieces are all embellished with metal and handwork to blur the line between aesthetic and atrocity. Highly charged in its racial politics, this collection aims to engage viewers of all demographics to acknowledge, question, and challenge their position and access in relation to these varying degrees of separation. It is Black culture. It is American culture.â Fred Mèzidor is a recent graduate of the 5 year Brown/RISD Dual Degree program with a B.A. in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University and a B.F.A in Apparel Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Mickey Woods Jr. Interpretation of Shoot The Breeze lyrics by Michaela Taylor
Shoot The Breeze (feat. Musiqal Rose) x Mickey Woods Jr. Woods, Mickey, Jr., perf. Shoot The Breeze. Mickey Woods Jr. Feat Musiqal          Rose. Gold Chronic, 2016. CD. https://soundcloud.com/mickey-woods/shoot-the-breeze
Word Count: 498
Mickey Woods Jr. is a 23 year old artist out of Port Arthur, Texas. He released his album âGrooveâ on March 31, 2016 which includes the song, âShoot the Breezeâ. This song was produced by Elijah Baugh who goes by Gold Chronic. âShoot the Breezeâ features a talented artist by the name of Musiqal Rose, who is also from Port Arthur, Texas. As I was talking to the artist, I realized that he made this song about music, but Iâm going to explain it from a relationship perspective, since thatâs how I listen to the song.
While I was listening to this song the first couple of times, my love life played in my head over and over again. This song describes my previous relationship from start to finish. âI donât really like games but Iâm into yoursâ, implying that this person is clearly playing games, but there is just something about them that is so intriguing that  makes it impossible to pull away from. Later on he sings, âDo you mind if I stand in line, I just watched you take the pain awayâ, implementing that he wouldnât mind standing in line, knowing that he is not the only one, but whatever that person is giving out to make things not feel so hard, he would like to have some of it. In this song, Mickey Woods Jr. talks about this person or thing living so far away. Yes, it may be physical distance, but Iâm also looking at it from an emotional standpoint. âWhy do you live so far away?â The person is so emotionally unavailable that they are so distant, and it hurts. I say that the emotional connection is so far away because of the line, âyou didnât even wanna fight for meâ, implying that the person obviously didnât care about the relationship, therefore, they could not have been emotionally present or invested. In verse 2, he expresses how he was jealous and he was trying to keep his cool, but now he canât hold back his emotions anymore, and he has to react to them now. âI know I promise I wouldnât trip, but I see his name all on your lips.â He also explains how he might have felt differently about things if  the person whom he is talking about was just honest about everything. âOnly thing that I wanted off top was for you to tell a nigga the truth.â In the hook, he repeats the line, âI canât even shoot the breeze with ya.â Here, he is bluntly saying I canât fuck with you. Lastly, as the song comes to a close I came across an interesting part in which I found to be particularly uplifting, as it explains my current feelings about the relationship. He sings, âYo girl looks like she wants to like me.â I interpreted this line of the song  to simply mean that, yes exactly. Your are not the only option, Iâm popping.

groove baby on three. 1-2-3. Groovy Baby! They said Mickey Boy, you go fed when you be on trip mode Music never go dead, something like a flip phone uh, I think I need to cop a flip phone Got the type of love that make a nigga change his ringtone
Verse 1: I be taking my time, not changing my mind, decisions be easy You be looking so fine, you bet not decline if I shoot the breezes I think her favorite color is indigo, I don't really like games but iâm into yours. I own a magazine if you didnât know. You can be the front page of the center-fold ooohh, One time cause the rain keep falling why, oh why do you live so far away? why you live so far away? why you live so far away? Do you mind if I stand in line, I just watched you take the pain away. can you do the same for me? (can you do the same for me) I think I got just what you need (i think i got just what you need) I donât mind seeing your love call, but why, oh why do you live so far away? (live so far away) Iâm feeling empty need to re-up. (Iâm feeling empty need to re-up.) Why you treat me differently, you treat me so differently. You didnât even treat me right, you didnât even wanna fight for me. When you saw me gettinâ hung, right up on the tree. I know you say your loyal heart just only be for me, but you too cheesy with these niggas I couldnât even pull the triggaâ [HOOK] Now I canât even shoot the breeze with yaâ, I canât even shoot the breeze I think I might just let him be with yaâ be with ya I think I might just let em be. (I think I might just let em be) I think I might just let you free sista, go ahead and use your wings Cause I canât even shoot the breeze with ya, no, no I canât even shoot the breeze.
I know I promise I wouldnât trip, but I see his name all on your lips. (all on your lips) Only thing thatâs keeping me from loading this clip, is God himself, he wonât let me flip Your eyes will never see the pain that you put me through, (pain that you put me through) only thing that I wanted off top is for you to tell a nigga the truth. [HOOK] Now I canât even shoot the breeze. (I canât even shoot the breeze) I canât even shoot the breeze, (I canât even shoot the breeze) I think I got just what you need, (I think I got just what you need) I think I got just what you need All I can do now is dream, (All I can do now is dream ) the faith of a mustard seed (the faith of a mustard seed) you know, you know I got what you need. (Whenever you need) But I canât even shoot the breeze, I think I got just what you need I think I might just let you be You wanna get so low, you wanna get so low you just want me to speak You need some space so you can breathe So why you looking dead at me, like I got something you need, no.
I done came through so throwed and nicely, your girl looks like she wants to like me I dun threw on some jeans a white T, sipping something that looks like Ice Tea. (x2)
