The Darkness: analógico (octubre 2025) 🎤
The two ways people feel about the band The Darkness:
1) They did that "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" hairmetal novelty song in the early 2000s, which is pretty good, fun music video. Otherwise haven't thought about them in 20 years.
2) They are the greatest rockband in human history who have never written a bad song, every one of their albums is solid gold, why don't the rest of you like this? Why aren't they considered the greatest rockband of all time?? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?? DO YOU HEAR THESE SOLOS?? THE SINGING??
WHAT, DO YOU HATE FUN?? WHY DO YOU HATE FUN??? WHY DON'T YOU LOVE THE DARKNESS???
There's a third option you encounter mostly in The Darkness fan groups on FB...
The Darkness & Ash - The Civic Hall, Wolverhampton UK
For today’s gig we drove an hour and half to the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton for our first ever visit. The venue was easy to get to as it had a multi storey car park. We got inside quickly and were greeted with the merchandise stand, there were a decent amount of merch from both bands including a Darkness toast shaped stress toy and a signed Ash vinyl which we bought to add to our ever growing…
unnecessarily long concert reports: the darkness🎲🍒🪩
a few weeks ago, i made a post on r/thedarkness asking if anyone met them and i kind of did it??? if by "meet," you mean "longingly stare at from a distance." it was completely by accident though
BUT i did actually end up meeting frankie sometime after the show
I love your dad, that's super hilarious. I can only imagine the version Frankie told the rest of the band. Some random man and a girl with sticky hands... 😂😂😂
I'm really glad you got to see them live so soon after becoming a fan, it took me nearly 12 years or so 🤷♀️
Tuesday, September 16: The Darkness, "Choke on It"
Give The Darkness credit for sticking it out and continuing to do their thing long after the hype and outrage died down. As the years and albums rolled on, everything got tamped down a bit, including the primacy of their hooks, so something like Easter is Cancelled played more like a steady and intermittently catchy hard rock record than an explosion. To that point, “Choke on It” moved along with a firm groove and a more muted swagger by Justin Hawkins standards, while his single-entendre jokes didn’t feel forced so much as just par for the course though his attempt at a Liam Gallagher sneer midway through was perfectly random. This was the band just being themselves and doing what they do.
It's one of my favourites on the album.
Guitar boy also plays drums 🥰

Wow, it’s been a long time since I last posted.
I haven’t had many earworms for quite a while so hopefully they’re coming back to me.
This one has been stuck in my head for days!
Enjoy 😊

the darkness - "dancing on a friday night" essay
i'm a rock and roll party cowboy / and i ain't gonna read no tolstoy
this was my second concert of this incredible band that i love with my whole heart! on the first one they only played songs form their first album though, because it was on the 20th anniversary tour. so i just knew i wanted more! my life wasn't full without hearing barbarian live.
i want to touch you, but i'm afraid of the consequences
anyway, i traveled to the uk to see them, and i knew the doors were opened at 6:30 pm, but there was no info when the concert starts, so i was there around 7pm assuming it'll be enough time to see merch and buy something to drink. it turned out to be more than enough, because suddenly there was a support band 😬 they weren't bad, i was just surprised!
that's what they used to write that poetry about
and then they were, in their glittering prime... just kidding, there were no glitter outfits, just four guys with guitars and drums. fun fact (that made me laugh every time i saw it): they changed guitars after almost every song. good thing they didn't have to change the drums!
we're only doing this 'cause it's fun / don't even think my mum bought the last one
what i love about this band is that they're just visibly having so much fun both creating music and preforming it. they just love their jobs and it shows!!! creating music from the pure passion and love for the process, it's just incredible! (i'm not saying they don't care about charts because they specifically asked everyone to buy their new album because they want to finally be number one, but caring about charts doesn't mean not caring about the music itself. like c'mon we all want to get an award at our jobs!)
she is literally a love machine
what i also loved was the audiences having soooo much fun! there were barely any phones up, just people having the time of their lives! (not saying that recording parts of the concert is bad because i do it too, but too much phones feels like people are there for content and not for the music). there was even a moment when justin (lead vocalist) told everyone not to film him, because he's a little ill and doesn't want to find his snots all over the internet the next day
i'm trying to write a ballad that makes you wanna stay / they're easy to come up with but they're difficult to play
do you know these concert games that singer divides the audience in parts and tells only the right/left part to scream something? justin did the same thing but with his (male) boobs - moving right boob meant the right side of the audience should scream. this was obviously very fun but also very very hot!
get your hands off of my woman, motherfucker
another fun concert game was repeating singing the word "motherfucker" after justin and he had sooo much fun with it, singing more opera-like, higher and lower, it was super cool!
when we're together / we'll have our time in the sun / when we're together / for me, you're the only one
the drummer (rufus) sang one of the songs and it was a song about his dog, called "my only" with a slideshow of pictures of the dog in the background. i loved it soooooo much!!! also, based on his stage moves, you could really tell he's a drummer (i'm sorry but it's true)
i wake up so early / the sun has only just set / i wake up in a middle-aged body / to the toilet, i must get
god the energy these men have! the music feels like they're in their early 20s, definitely not middle-aged! justin's vocals!!!! the guitars!!!!! the drums!!!! god i loved it so much!!!!
oh, i hate myself, i hate myself, i do / i really hate myself so you don't have to
the song "i hate myself" is one of their most energetic and they played it so much better than on the album! i still love the album version, the live version is just insanely good. like literally so good i can't stop thinking about it!!!
i'd hoped to witness beauty there / in the ruins
they changed outfits for the encore to sing "weekend in rome" (their new song from the new album) and they did it so well! they premiered a few new songs during the concert and i loved all of them!
i believe in a thing called love / just listen to the rhythm of my heart
they obviously also played their most known song, the one i love with every bit of my being and i was sooooo happy!!! literally listen to the rhythm of my heart!!! i believe in a thing called love!!!
the seventh circle of hell, right here in my cell / did you forget you are a prisoner, as well?
i couldn't resist and bought myself a mug knowing perfectly well that i already own too many mugs. and also i bought two additional versions of the album (the physical one was sent to me already) - the deluxe version and *drumroll* a bootleg version with a recording from my concert! i didn't receive the last one yet, they're probably processing it. i just couldn't resist. also i want them to perform well on the charts. you too can buy their new album "dreams on toast" or just listen to it on a streaming platform of choice. turn off the sound if you don't like it, but just turn the songs on (please)
love is only a feeling (drifting away) / when i'm in your arms, i start believing (it's here to stay)
i just love them so much!!! (can't you tell?)
we'll take your precious horses, leave your corpses in the snow
thank you for reading my way too long essay, have a nice day and remember to stream dreams on toast today!
