Bet y'all forgot that I have my grail doll. 😂 I still love her, promise!
I’ve been on pins and needles waiting to hear about this guys, and I can finally show everyone.
I got 2nd place in the faceup contest!😲😲 I’m so proud of my entry, though I wish I’d submitted some better pictures of her. I hope the first place person (sour_dotz) doesn’t pick the Vincent sculpt 😣 bb boy is perfect for my Raphael 😍
Odd question! how much are ball jointed dolls usually? (like completed ones with hair and outfits and everything)
It’s not odd at all! Researching prices is a smart thing to do if you’re interested in engaging with the hobby!
That being said, prices range wildly between all categories (base doll, clothing, eyes, wigs, optional accessories, etc) and is usually dependent on the company you’re buying from, and sometimes (though not necessarily) quality as well.
When it comes to base dolls, it really depends on what size you’re looking for. There’s YoSD (or “mini”, typically around 20-23cm on average), MSD (also sometimes listed on company sites under a “teen” category, usually 42-45cm), and SD (sometimes “adult” or “elder”, averaging I would say around 61-66cm or so). Granted, I don’t have knowledge of all companies, and truthfully I haven’t been focusing really hard on the hobby lately, but I would say a safe average price estimate for each size would be as follows:
YoSD: anywhere from $150-250+ USD, blank, body + head
MSD: anywhere from $400-550+ ish USD, blank, body + head
SD: anywhere from $500-750+ USD, blank, body + head
I say “blank” because other factors could add on to the price, such as faceups and/or body blushing from the company, which could easily tack on another $40-60 USD, more than that if you add both. Individuals in the hobby also offer these services, but their pricing is at their discretion. If the company you’re buying from also offers custom resin colors (darker skin tones, or fantasy ones like blue/gray/red/etc.) that could also add more to the price of the doll. Of course, you have outliers to these, usually limited sculpts or fullsets, which depending on the company could easily go over $800-1,000 USD.
Wigs and eyes vary between sizes and companies as well, though material can be a factor as well. Wigs come in the fiber you typically see on human wigs, though they can come in Mohair as well. I’ve even seen yarn before! As for eyes, the two most common materials are urethane plastic and glass. Despite this, a very steady average for both wigs and eyes I would say would be around $20-25 USD for each. It can depend on complexity (multiple colors, irises with glitter/confetti, etc), but at most that would push it into the $30-35 USD range.
Clothing fluctuates wildly, and I would say the deciding factors would be the garment’s complexity and whether you’re buying mass-produced or one-offs/commissions. Simple shirts, pants, and dresses can range between $25-40 USD on their own, while full outfits/costumes and elaborate coats, cloaks, dresses, and other extremely detailed garments can go over $120 USD, especially when done on commission.
Extra bits like mods (carving/sculpting, piercings, tattoos, dyeing) can add more still, especially if you’ll be commissioning another hobbyist to do these things for you.
With all that being said! Let’s imagine you’re buying an SD-sized doll with a faceup from your company of choice. Let’s say that will run you around $600 USD, depending. From there you commission someone to add a tattoo and a few piercings, which would be about $55 USD or so including shipping. You find the ideal wig for what you want at $30, and some custom eyes also at $30 USD. You find a company selling a mildly elaborate full outfit, including shoes, for $130 USD.
Once all the pieces come together, your hypothetical grand total would be $845 on the doll altogether.
However, these prices shouldn’t be what you should expect to get all the time. I may have lowballed a few of these. Not only that, but if you’re buying services and accessories from other hobbyists as commissions, their prices may be much higher than what I quoted here. Don’t expect these prices or for the shop owners to lower theirs--they will charge what they feel is fair.
I hope this helps, nonnie! If my prices are off or if anyone has anything to add, please feel free to do so!

These pictures were fun to take, but I need to do better with sunlight :| Or maybe Kio needs dark lashes.
This guy happened entirely by accident, and I’m totally in love. I’d previously had the head and body for sale and tried them together on a whim… Oops! He’s an Impldoll Deborah head on a Ringdoll Teen body.
Artist’s choice F60 Lacrima Vampire head for Cassiel! I wanted to go with a classic vampy look for her but with a tiny addition of a purple Morpho butterfly tattoo since it matched her eyeshadow.
