Year 6

Today I said goodbye. As a teacher, every year is different. This year I had 8 students who could write better than most of the year 12s i once taught. It wasn't their brains that impressed me, it was their hearts.

this is why its so important for people who care about kids to be teachers. you become another parent, all the way up through university level. if you dont like kids, sweet jesus do not become a teacher because you are then just another shitty adult in the life of someone who needs you.

I’m a year 6 teacher who works in an area with very low socio-economic families. I always have spare food in my desk for students. I have bought lunch for students if I didn't have spare. I have a huge draw full of spare books and stationary, they don’t even have to ask me to use them. 

Students always ask me what I want for presents for my birthday and Christmas. Some students bring me things like candles and chocolates, and I always thank them. But my biggest smiles go to students who have drawn me something, or made me something. I have almost a whole wall in my class room with students presents blu-taced there.
