So I came across this post on Facebook and usually I don’t let ignorance rile me up, but I just had to speak about this whole, All-Time Leader in missed shots by no other than, Kobe Bryant. I literally spent about an hour and a half researching stats, googling history, and all that just to justify the Mamba’s shooting. This is my reply.
Michael Jordan? You gonna bring up DA GAWD Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Okay, let’s bring up, Michael Jordan which I assume you’re a fan of like the rest of the world. Let me break it down.
Kobe missed 13,418 shots. Havlicek (played in the 60’s) missed 13, 417. Earl Hayes missed 13,296. Karl Malone missed 12,682. Kareem Abdul Jabbar missed 12,470. And the oh so great Michael Jordan, 12,345. All Champions, except Karl Malone.
Michael Jordan played 15 seasons with the NBA. 13 seasons with the Bulls and 2 with the Wizards. That’s 1,072 regular season games and 179 Playoff games. That’s NOT counting his 3 seasons in North Carolina.
Now, Kobe Bryant. Went straight form High School to the NBA at the age of 17. I’m sure you know that cause your such a huge fan. Kobe has played 19 seasons and will play another season next year, ending his career with 20 years in the NBA. He has played 1,465. That is 214 more than MJ (according to latimes).
I also took the time to find out the average missed shots per year for the following players. Took the difference of the total attempt FG’s and made shots divided by the number of seasons played by each player (For example, Michael jordan went 12,192 of 24,537 shots. 24,537 - 12,192 divided by 15 = 823. 823 missed shots a season, not including playoffs.). Here are my results.
Allen Iverson - 673.
Kevin Durant - 772.
Lebron James - 708.
Chris Paul - 456.
Kobe Bryant - 740.
Michael Jordan… 823. Let me say this again, this is the average of missed shots total in a regular season.
Hmm….. now what does that say? Ain’t no article going to tell you that now would they? Because all the energy BSPN spends and the rest of the media wants you to believe any story out there.
I spent more time on this comment than I thought I would, but I actually learned a lot from it. If it wasn’t for ignorant posts like yours and the thousands of others out there, I would’ve never done my own research and find out the bigger picture. So thanks. Hope your Clippers make it to the Finals. I really do.
If Michael Jordan would have ended his career playing after 19 years, he would have missed 15,637. Assuming that he would have kept missing at the average of 823 shots a year. Hmm… just my $0.02.
"I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." - MJ
"If you’re afraid to fail, then you’re probably going to fail." "Everything negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise." - KB
I rest my case.
