Jay Cue (of NRK) remixed Big Pun’s “You Ain’t A Killer” with  slowly rolling whines and jazz cymbals.  One of the harshest tracks from one of the harshest rappers who survived the harshest times in rap gets a jarring revisit.  

The originally piano-driven boom-bap track that was highlighted by vibrations and occasional screeches, moves from an invasive (NY) anthem to an ageless, floating serenade.  The vocals remain unobstructed, save for a slightly static atmosphere that surrounds the deeper intonations from Pun’s diaphragm.  

The off-tempo drum-thumps are carried by strings that are sporadically matched and overthrown by synthetic whines to push this remix farther off its kilter.  Cue occasionally removes certain instruments in order to highlight particular bars, effectively remixing the vocal emphasis where he sees fit.  This is a remix in its pure form; this is how to take the drive of a powerful original and own it.
