When you finally leave the Fade and get to watch the sunrise again
idk what this says about me lmao but the thing abt davrin that is the most attractive to me (besides him being physically beautiful lol) is that he's competent and reliable in a way that doesn't uphold toxic masculinity
he WILL be there for you. he WILL get the job done. he WILL protect those who needs to be protected. not because it's what men should do but because he cares. he cares about being a Warden and the griffons, he ends up caring very much about the companions and rook
he's never going to be one of those dudes with weaponized incompetence. he's 50/50 on house chores, errands, he'd be an airport dad FOR SURE. pipes are busted? he either fixes it himself or already has the plumber called up and scheduled
to me that's so appealing and attractive
Davrin’s gentle eyes matches his hobby of choice (whittling) bc gentleness is required to keep from splintering the wood and then to add detail to the figures that he makes… and just his overall gentle mindset for why he’s making a monster bestiary/codex (so that other people don’t get killed because these creatures are dangerous, you should engage with them with caution) and just he is so gentle and so thoughtful and yes, clan life wasn’t for him but he still thinks of them and thinks highly of his people and wants to protect them, and he still pays attention to nature and can see when something is wrong with it; Davrin who says he’ll open shop with Neve, davrin who has been collecting info on monsters and creatures for years enough to have a book that can be published, davrin who grieves and mourns his friends very obviously, davrin who knows dwarven to greet the grey wardens’s partners on the deep roads, davrin who was in trusted with the griffons, not just because he was supposed to be the bodyguard but because remi and lancet saw his potential and acknowledged it — and he’s not just the bodyguard but the safe guard and keeper of their future and a the father of one (Assan), he thinks highly and references his family both biological and found, he remembers fondly riding on aravels and being around the campfire — he’s the one with the heart of a Halla too!!
So yes,
Davrin.
people don't want to engage deeply w davrin's character are truly missing out because he's such a layered guy
we have someone who is BUILT for devotion, but also restless. so he leaves his clan for adventure and to seek out something new. but he's used to and thrived in a way in a community setting like a dalish clan
he felt directionless and purposeless so he joined the Wardens because it's not only a new purpose, it's a community. one he longed for but felt like he didn't deserve because it was HIS choice to leave his clan
so he puts his ENTIRE BEING into the Wardens. he's ride or die - literally. he's ready to die for the Wardens.
it's all pulled away from him - the shattering of the grey wardens and he DOESN'T DIE. what is he living for? what can he give? what does he devote himself to?
the griffons. he's assan's bodyguard, that's it. no, he's assan FATHER. he says it himself.
then there's killing the gods. yeah sure, he was technically just hired. but he finds himself endeared to the companions. and rook. especially to rook.
"Don't fall hard for your boss." too late. now he feels like his life started for real. wherever they are, there he is
he can't pretend he doesn't care and is nonchalant. but he's hardwired for devotion
| my obsession with this man is horrendous
Yeah, Davrin. Move it like you mean it.

Wanted to draw a close-up of Davrin and it ended up like this. I'm not sorry!

Beatrix - Final Fantasy 9
ALSO Emmrich Volkarin is in the prime of his life so jot that down. His lifestyle is healthy as hell, he's wealthy and a MAGE. There's lore, iirc, that mages live longer than most on average. What I'm trying to say is that my man is going to live to be 110. Running circles around people half his age the entire time. He teaches until he's 90 and then he and a 70-year-old Rook go on the Thedas equivalent of one of those year-long cruises where they just go to a different major Thedosian city every week. Every year on his nameday he pats his grandchildren on the head and tells them that, while it may be his last birthday in the realm of the living, he's so glad he got to spend time with them. He gets weapy about it. He does this until said grandchildren are well into their twenties. Emmrich dies quickly without much malingering of some sort of fast illness, or maybe goes quietly and painlessly in his sleep, at WELL OVER 100, I cannot stress this enough, and then they pop him in his sarcophagus and his ghost haunts the Necropolis for a few years, unseen but felt by the sudden rushes of warmth and affection his family will sometimes feel on rainy days. Rook goes at a similarly advanged age and as the world fades out, Emmrich's face fades in--smiling, beautiful, looking exactly as he did when they met. Because Emmrich at 52 is in the prime of his life, goddamn it, and I will die on this hill.
Yeah, you're not great at holding stuff in. But don't mourn me forever. Promise?
