This is part 3 of the Eru Kusaba analysis post this is the last part.
This panels is all about the strength love gives you.
We see that Uoya and Kusaba parallel because love makes them both stronger.
Enishiro is impressed of course.
And Hajima has some conflicting feelings on the matter. Of course this is before she found out she fell in love with Enishiro too she sees Kusaba show her feelings all the time and gets actively stronger from it. I think she feels jealous on that fact.
For context he’s crying because one of his classmates was safe and he’s happy about it and here comes Kusabas bold self giving him a hug to comfort him.
Hajima comments how shes taking advantage to hug him while he’s crying.
If you remember during the fight with Kusaba and Kiyomi Kusaba talks about if she was the first one Katsubata while he was hurt or down than he would fall in love with her. So Kusabas ideology is to comfort someone you like so that they feel your always there for them even when their down and showing vulnerability.
So remember the hug scene I talked about that was between Enishiro and Hajima yeah this hug happened right before it. You see everyone who had enough battery in their phones was giving it to Enishiro so he can beat Sad boy K.
So now it was Kusabas turn and Enishiro already is at a good 83% so Kusaba only has to give him 17% of her battery so it shouldn’t take that long for them to hug. So shes presses her phone against his.
As she does that she talks about how scared and powerless she felt towards sad boy k. And she thought her feelings would make her strong.
Yeah she states at that moment she couldn’t do the thing that gives her a reason to live. And thats her being able to do anything for the person she loves.
Hiyori is in her chair reacting to this situation.
Then she tells Enishiro she won’t run away because she wants to be the perfect girl for him.
Now this part I didn’t like actually I hated it. You know how I said that Hiyoris love for Enishiro progresses her character well Kusabas love somehow regresses it.
She is doing the exact same thing she was called out for doing. She had no actual development in that regard. And I know in real life one single talk and fight won’t make you change over night I get that. But this is a story. And it feels as though all the things Kiyomi said to her was thrown out the window like it was nothing. Like what was even the point of that fight if nothing of actual value to her character was made. Even in real life you can still ponder the things being said to you. But once she “fell in-love” with him she never gave what Kiyomi said a second thought.
She just straight up confesses.
Obviously if you seen my last post then you know what happens next for Hajima so I won’t elaborate.
After she said that Enishiro seems to nervously back away saying he is already at 100% from her and Kiyomi tells her thats enough hugging.
Enishiros claims thats the first time anyone’s said that and that he isn’t really sure how to react. He’ll give her a response after the battle ends.
First off I wanna ask Kusaba what the end goal is for her relationship with Enishiro is. Do you actually want to date him and be his perfect girl? Or is this another chase for you? She seemed pretty genuine but I could be wrong. Okay let’s say Enishiro does fall for you will you still have interest in the guy? Or would have more interest if he rejects you and say has someone then will you still chase him or would you move on from it like you did with a bunch of other guys?
Like she could ask herself these questions and it easily make her and this relationship more interesting but alas she doesn’t she now just feels like a play device to get Hiyori to do things
Also I wanna point out the clear difference in reaction with Enshiro during both hug scenes.
When you see the hug between them she was the one initiated a full hug even though at first Enishiro was offering it. When she does actually hug him there is still some distance between them. And he is more light with the hug back. He was the one to pull away first.
When it came to Hiyoris hug it looked like they melted into the hug. Like he was the first one to wrap his arms around her and there was no distance between them. His face wasn’t in her hair but you can tell he was still nuzzled in it. And she is the one who was initially hesitant to wrap her arms around him as well. When she finally did get comfortable she rests her head on his shoulder as he leans closer. And she is the one to break off the hug.
This takes place right after the events of the Sad Boy K arc.
Kiyomi notices Kusaba stare at Enishiro awkwardly I think 🤔
She proceeds to ask if he ever gave her a response and he confirms and we see Hajimas doll perk up. But when Kiyomi asks him what he said he smiles and said it’s a secret.
Bro what in the world could he have said to her that makes it a secret.
You know if he did flat out reject her would have just said that but I don’t think that’s the case. So lets list a few theories I have for what he said.
1. He didn’t flat out reject her instead he said he wants to get to know her more before he can make a decision
This one is like a maybe 50/50 chance?
2. Him and her are actually dating
This one most likely didn’t happen considering literally everything but you never know
3. He said he likes someone else and she’s supporting him on it
Again this one is a pretty low chance because we he’s the main character and as the audience we often should know who the protagonist’s object of desire is but since we never saw the conversation between them so I cannot confirm nor deny.
Now if he were to have a crush it would either be Hiyori or some random girl from his past.
But whatever it was they seem to have a good relationship after the fact. And his smile here could mean anything.
Now usually I put these scenes in order but I forgot to. It works out for this section though!
This happens before the events of the previous panels.
So Kiyomi and Hiyori are hanging out in Hajima special dorm when they hear a knock and it’s no other than Kusaba.
It turns out she came here specifically for Hiyori.
Of course Kiyomi being the protective friend she is yells at Kusaba asking her what could she possibly want with Hiyori.
She states that she was the only person from her class to be chosen to go on this mission because her cyberknesis is so strong.
She really have one of the most powerful cyberknesis.
She wants to make Enishiro fall for her. Good luck with that.
Kiyomi is rightfully annoyed with her because like yeah one of there classmates were kidnapped so why the is she telling her shes trying to seduce one of her classmates.
Kusaba said that if she’s there to support Enishiro through the process he might look in her direction.
She says she knows that Hiyori likes him too and that she won’t lose to her. Of course Hiyori denies it.
Kiyomi is overly supportive saying as far as Hiyori needs to make Soji hers!
There are two apparent reasons why Kiyomi supports her crush on Enishiro it’s not only because she wants Kusaba to back down for once but she believes it could be good for her. Even though she think Enishiro is a numbskull in Kiyomi eyes she see the good he’s done for Hiyoris confidence.
Now I wanna talk about how Kusaba and Hiyori are total opposites.
I feel like Kusaba is everything Hiyori’s not.
Shes confident and she is not afraid to tell the people she likes how she feels and unlike Hiyori who isn’t able to immediately admit when she likes someone.
Even their designs are completely opposite. The black hair vs the pink hair also their body types and fashion senses are opposite. Like Hiyori doesn’t seem to care what she wears outside as long as it’s comfortable and Kusaba is always dressing to impress the men shes trying to seduce.
If we were to compare both scenes of them realizing they are in love with Enishiro we could easily which one is more genuine.
The way Hiyori realizes is because time and time again Enishiro would show respect and admiration for her. He would constantly notice her and compliment her whenever given the chance to. It’s a long process for her to realize that she loves someone who appreciates her presence to the fullest. And when he remembers her birthday and gives her a meaningful present it makes sense that after all he’s done for her she would fall for him.
Than you look at Kusaba realizing shes in love with Enishiro and it’s because he looks cool while fighting.
Also the way he reacts to them is also different i already explained one example during the hug scenes.
In general Enishiro and Hiyori have a more intimate relationship that benefits both of them and progresses Hiyori as a character
While Enishiro and Kusabas relationship is a boring relationship that only serves to give Hiyori the boost to make reveal her true feelings for Enishiro. This relationship benefits nobody but actually regresses Kusabas character into a plot device for their relationship thats the only reason the author kept her in the story.
Anyways thats my analysis of her character.
How do I feel about her character well I don’t hate her but I definitely don’t like her. I liked her from the beginning but now she’s nothing but a plot device.
