Marisbury is an empty man but it's like the specific WAYS that he's empty that make me run around in the enclosure because for all that he wants to remove the interior from humanity he doesn't like, deny it's existence or even say it harms humanity outright, he just believes they'd be better without it and his 'coldness' in this respect is what was taken as malice by Maris-Animusphere (much like how Goetia saw Solomon's passiveness as cruelty). He's cruel in the way a child is cruel; Like he genuinely DOES love Olga he doesn't consider her worthless or expendable the way most mages do with their families but in this case its WORSE because he let her suffer solely because it wouldn't change the outcome, ergo it would be a 'meaningless' action.

I initially compared this guy to tsumugi shirogane but like junko enoshima is the better comparison because we learn that he's literally an Ultimate Analyst, he understands everything about people just from observing them. From the way he talks he's genuinely trying not to be misunderstood, the advanced CHALDEAS earth was so because they achieved perfect communication, he's trying to make everyone in the world as easily understandable to each other as he understands them, and he accepts that no one will ever understand him either. His ultimate goal is to make the journey just a little easier and just that little more painless for humanity's future, quite literally the same as Sion and Nemo's for helping Guda. It's not that he doesn't believe in humans or hates them, he really means it when he says he loves humans and he loves them precisely because they are ugly! He thinks they could do this whole evolution thing just a little more efficiently. He wants to make humanity's odds just a little better.

AND LIKE!!! Above all else he's absurdly childish!!! He's sassy with Solomon when discussing their dreams (he literally described his goals as his own childish dream with pride), he played a prank on Chaldea when they arrived just to try and ease the tension, he claims to be objective on all fronts but simply can't help himself and gives a juvenile jab at David Bluebook as a worthless loser, and much like the perfect cruelty found in the innocence of a child he's earnestly apologizing to Guda for making them pass trouble at Traum like directly after he dispassionately described the torture and murder of his daughter after a century of having her nerves ripped out. He's literally beaming to himself in pride for following his own instructions perfectly as a guide because he got a good grade in talking to other people. He's genuine when he asks Guda if they've enjoyed their journey up to this point and apologizes for all the trouble he caused them with the Lostbelts. This whole thing was his childish dream he's never outgrown, even as a clone of course he's excited the way children are when they meet their heroes or get a big birthday cake. He has absolutely no problem explaining his plans and even how to beat him because he's excited to show off how good of a job he did. In most of Marisbury's dialogue exchanges he's always averting his eyes like he's embarrassed about direct conversation and hopes he's doing it right.

This guy is empty because he literally never grew up and developed a personality of his own. The focus on internality as something that holds people back is quite literally because he's the equivalent of a child not being able to properly express their own emotions so he over explains himself. He's literally autistic insanely evergreen image

HI......... WOWIE. i am so excited to answer this hehe... i have Many many thoughts about meroma... <3 i'm going to throw in some mersol too, hopefully that is a-ok!!

i'm a big. Big fan of soulmates/destined partners/etc so i really enjoy entertaining the idea of solomon and merlin Knowing they would end up together even if the details are Blurry. here's an Old joke tweet from 2023 that i made that sums this point up.

jokes aside i do think it'd be Really Really cool if solomon "foresaw" merlin's existence... and while merlin can only see the present, i think he would definitely sense someone watching him...

one of my Absolute Fave things is the idea of merlin having a true form as a cambion. something a bit horrifying and more demonic (but still a pretty boy at heart!). roman himself asks for merlin to show his "true form" so surely it's out there. i don't think merlin would like showing that true form to many people, but roman would be one of the people who know about it (because merlin trusts roman). i just think the idea of merlin breaking his usual demeanor of being the Nice Kind Joyous Big Brother Next Door and instead being an unhinged demon is awesome. roman is a normal human so he'd not really be able to handle All Of That but somehow he'd still manage to. solomon #hacks or whatever........

i think a lot about merlin's relationship with (not) being human and how that parallels solomon not being allowed to be human, and how in my eyes, that really makes them perfect for each other. merlin is half human but his identity and emotions are more like an incubus's. he Most Definitely experiences emotions but one must look at it from a nonhuman perspective. his emotions are Very Very distorted. he won't understand what love is in the same sense of your average person. but he definitely feels love! solomon on the other hand... never had any freedom nor could he choose to even feel emotions. goetia took care of feeling what he couldn't. up until he was given the chance to make a wish... and he became roman. side note but i adore that he picked his own name. so much. it's so sweet how he adores "romance" so much that he named himself after the concept that specifically humans (of the future) experience... anyway, these two have aspects of them that make them human but for their own reasons, they cannot experience what which makes oneself human. so tl;dr they get each other. they understand each other enough to banter at each other and pretend to hate each other.

by merlin's own words he hates grand casters. so he hates himself (lol once again i tap the sign that is "merlin is way more human that he'll willingly admit") but i think it's really Awesome he claims in his conversation with usolomon (lev goetia) that he prefers og!solomon in a Really Roundabout way... acting more solomoncore is not a good thing, lev! don't do that! on the topic of this, yes, merlin hates grand casters enough to act as solomon's personal therapist. totally hates them. i do think magi☆mari started out as a joke or a prank but eventually merlin did find himself giving genuine advice to roman. and he enjoyed doing so. very much...

everything i touch becomes transgender so Ya. t4t meroma is where it's at. everyone hop on. i like thinking solomon doesn't cut off his Huge Boobs (ahem... sorry) but as roman he has top surgery. know the difference. merlin can take any form he wishes. but trans masc merlin is near and dear to me!

i've always been Really fond of merlin bonding with mash (it's galahad's fault) but it makes 40000000x more sense when you consider that mash is roman's blorbo too. this mash can fit so much family in her heart.

usually height differences are cute but meroma/sol is Really special because they are both 178cm!! isn't that crazy. it's so cute.

i like to think merlin saw fuyuki happen and checked in on roman after the whole thing. maybe without letting himself be known at first, but i Really do think they talked in roman's dreams even before Everything at chaldea happened. merlin is a curious creature...

back to the lgbt side of things. i like to imagine merlin is a men-liker (despite all of the comments about women. Don't fall for his tricks he is Gay...) while roman is bi!!!

i associate cherry blossoms (meaning: transience) with merlin because Duh. but for roman it's pink roses (meaning: "secret" love, trust). <3 and for solomon it's lilies of the valley (meaning: return of happiness, purity, and sweetness ). both roses and lilies are associated with solomon in irl judaism if you're curious, but even if they weren't i really think These Are The Flowers that suit him.

this is getting long and my cat has decided to stand right in front of my keyboard so as a parting gift i offer one of my fave meroma moments. What the hell was this.
