Hello! I felt like I should probably introduce myself as the writer of this blog, feel free to skip past this if not interested.

Name: Ghost but irl i go by Eli/Eris (idm either)

Age: 17

Pronouns: He/ they

Nationality: Half French, half Scottish, currently in the UK.

Languages: French, English and trying to learn Swedish!

Favourite colour: Green.

Hobbies: Art, playing guitar, skateboarding, collecting/ gathering, and of course learning new things!

Movies/ TV: Baby Driver, The Batman, Se7en, Prisoners, AVP, JJBA.

Fun Fact: Penguins are adorable and give each other gifts of love.

It has been observed that male penguins gift their partners pebbles as a show of affection, similar to humans gifting flowers. The pebbles are used to create raised nests and are often reciprocated in a chain of penguin partners collecting the best pebbles they can find for each other. Every breed of penguin can also mate for life and so will stay forever with their pebble giving partner. Adorable!

Fun Fact: The most candles ever put on a cake is 72,585!

The record was set in 2016 when over 100 members at a meditation centre in New York came together to celebrate their teachers 85th birthday!

25th October 2022:

Fun Fact: There are three flags which are not the standard rectangle!

The most obvious of these three being Nepal's with a flag comprised of two triangular shapes. The less thought of are both depicted as square flags (which are technically still rectangles but not in the typical sense) these being the flag of Switzerland and of the Vatican City.

23rd October 2022:

Fun Fact: It is actually a myth that all of the cells in a human body are replaced over a seven year period!

This seven year period is just an approximation of the average human cell lifespan across the whole body and therefore is quite an inaccurate number. Most damaged or destroyed cells get replaced through mitosis but not all cell types are capable of this, for example neurons (nerve cells). Neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) cannot decide at all, instead they perform a process called neuroplasticity where the neurons will reorganise themselves to bypass a damaged or destroyed section in the brain. The fact that these very important cells cannot be replaced is why brain damage is so dangerous and can cause of early Dementia and increases chances of Alzheimer's due to literally having less brain cells. Even damaged motor (or movement) neurons cannot regenerate or be replaced, this is what causes paralysis or deterioration of movement such as in the case of "motor neurons disease".

I kind of ended up going down a massive rabbit hole with this one but it was very interesting to me!

Fun Fact: The Danish flag is the oldest flag currently in use by a country!

The flag consisting of a red background and a white Scandinavian cross' creation can be dated back to around 1219, though it was replaced several times. It returned as the official flag of Denmark by 1307, making it the oldest official flag still in use today by around 78 years, seconded by Scotland's.

Bonus Fact: The exact adoption of these flags is widely disputed with different sources claiming wildly different centuries even. To my understanding this is because of the certification of these flags, for example the Scottish Saltire flag dates back to around 500AD but was only officiated in 1385 to help distinguish in battle.

Friday Fun Fact Faction: 3 shark facts!

• Sharks don't have bones! Their skeletons are made up of cartilage, this helps them float easier and swim faster as they are much lighter. Despite not being bone these skeletons can still be fossilised much like human teeth can be (teeth are not made of cartilage though). Other sea creatures share this feature with sharks, for example rays and sawfish.

• The two biggest species of shark in the world (the basking shark and the whale shark) are both filter feeders! Despite their massive size (up to 8 meters and 10 meters long respectively) they do not hunt, instead they swim slowly with their mouths agape capturing microplankton or "inhale" a large cloud of plankton at once. The water in their mouths is then filtered past large gill rakers (which prevent food from escaping) and through their large gills.

• Most sharks have eight fins but some may have less! These consist of two pectoral fins, two pelvic fins, two dorsal fins, a caudal fin, and an anal fin. Though an order of sharks exists known as "hexanchiformes", they are primitive sharks and therefore have some undeveloped features such as having only one dorsal fin resulting in a total of seven fins. There are only seven extant (currently existing) species of hexanchiformes because of this, in this list are the frilled shark and the cow shark.

Fun fact: Worms breathe through their skin!

They are covered in a layer of mucus that helps them absorb oxygen, this means that they must be kept moist. Though breathing through their skin does mean that they drown fairly easily if in too much water. This is why they stay underground during rainfall and surface afterwards!
