haven’t had a ton of free time lately, but here’s thistle finished up (the bandanna is to cover one of many slip spots oops)
Ah I just realized thistle is a bob not a domestic and was just the angle throwing me. Still amazing work. He looks very alive.

So apparently, there was an attempt to tame bears in the Mesolithic. Your thoughts?
Thaix et al. (1997) describe the mandibles of an Ursus arctos from France with a circular deformity on each half of the mandible. The fact that such a perfectly symmetrical deformity is present in an otherwise non-pathological specimen suggests that humans were responsible.
They propose that local humans tamed the bear by placing a strap around its jaw when it was still young, and the jaw grew around the strap. While quite crude, and undoubtedly discomforting for the bear, it does provide unique insight into interactions and dynamics between early humans and animals.
By the way, a cautionary tale
If you find a bunch of bones that are A: untouched and B: supernaturally clean, there is definitely a reason for both of those things. Sometimes that reason is ants. Sometimes those ants are fire ants. Sometimes those fire ants have made a nest over the entire three meter area around those bones

We take what is dead and forgotten and bring it home. we clean it, decorate it, /name it/ and display it for all the world to see, to be known. its an interesting sort of power we give to our dead pets, an interesting sort of worship.
Guess what we found in an old gum tree… this is a real taxidermy Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae)! Mounts of these large carnivorous Australian kingfishers are rarely available but this was sourced from a captive-bred animal born outside of Australia.
