Funiculars are a type of railway in which two cars are counterbalanced on an incline connected by a cable in a sort of pulley system. Not to be confused with cable cars, though both are often referred to as 'inclines'. The Monongahela Incline is the oldest operating funicular in the US (operating on and off since May 28th, 1870) and my personal favorite. I don't post about funiculars as much as my URL will seem, but I find them very lovely.

I often tag posts with my characters/OCs as they mean the world to me. If you're curious for more info my toyhou.se is the same as my blog name.

As Pride Month as approaches, I thought I'd make a confession that I've been holding onto for many years, 57 years ago, I was tucked away in a bar, an occasional tear dripping into a poorly made Manhattan, talk about bottom shelf liquor, that whiskey was distilled in the Guwanis. Anyway, you see my friend Judy had passed away and I was really feeling the loss. At around 1:20 am June 28th 1969, police raided the stonewall inn, and history was made, Now, there's some debate over who threw the first brick, but I want to set the record straight on something, I was the Brick.

You see, I was so petite and I wasclad in an antonelli red and white woolen moehair tweed coat and skirt set, that people mistook me for a flying brick. I flew through that stained glass Window and boom, the Stonewall riots commenced. As I lay face down and unconscious on Christopher Street, a vision of Judy came to me, and said, "Fulla, get up, finish your drink and fix your wig"

That's a life lesson I never forgot, all I know is that I woke up several hours, in the back of a paddy wagon, topless, surrounded by drag queens, each of whom had an article of my clothing on, they are quick and resourceful

So always remember, Fight, resist, finish your drink, and fix your wig

idw hear any more white people's opinions on this topic bc it's so clear they do not get it but they're soooo confident they do...... "well nothing is intrinsically masculine or feminine" yesss it's almost as though every culture has its own constructed gender norms which is why these values r culturally relative & why it's racist to impose eurocentric gender expectations on racialized bodies. all well & good to say femininity & masculinity should be completely abolished but what are you going to do for the Black women who are being labelled masc or gender non-conforming right now for not aligning with white gender norms that exclude them by design. "gender norms are social constructs do whatever you want forever" isn't enough we need to be saying "Black women are assumed to be deviating from gender norms just by existing even when they are purposefully expressing femininity bc western gender structures are built upon whiteness" like you've got to start by dismantling the racism & white supremacy inherent in these structures or you will leave racialized women behind

Among the most accessible of nineteenth-century photographic processes, the cyanotype owes its luminous Prussian-blue tonality to a simple chemistry: paper sensitized with ferric ammonium oxalate and potassium ferrocyanide, exposed to light through a negative and rinsed to reveal the image. First described in 1842, the technique found its widest popular audience between 1880 and 1920, when amateur photographers and the Arts and Crafts movement embraced it for its low cost and painterly effect. This print, made in Dorsey Hill in 1899, presents an unusual double portrait: a young woman seated atop a table, beside her stands a companion whose face bears a visible disfigurement, possibly the result of injury sustained in the Second Boer War, then in its opening months.
