New series of posts I'll be starting: my adventures Parallel Playing Pokemon with my mate and his gf. Context: we all play this on Discord together. We played Platnium together and it was a lot of fun. They'd previously played pokemon White/Black together and they had fun, but my mate tried to use a really weak team and really struggled against Ghetsis. I'll be recalling the highlights from the Platnium Playthrough but know we are now playing Emerald.
We all chose our teams in advance. Mate (M)'s GF is new to Pokemon but has been enjoying it. We each pick a starter and my blessed ass gets Infernape. My team is planned to be: Infernape, Raichu, Whiscash, Wormadam, Mr Mime, Probopass. May seem odd, but I pulled alot of them from the survey done years ago about which mons were most used to beat different pokemon games. I took options mainly from the bottom (I just never used Raichu and love Infernape so they're exceptions)
This game is modified to give us quality of life stuff so we have better mons earlier and region exclusives, trading etc. First major change to my team, I'm trying to catch a Burmy. Find a female Combee. Odds not changed, super fucking lucky, good by Probopass hello Vespiqueen.
Next major thing was m's GF (MGF) having such incredibly shit luck catching a croagunk that ended in her getting one with anticipation instead of dry skin lol. Mate decided to PKhacks that shit lmao.
As it progressed though I realised a flaw on my team. Mr Mine doesn't get Energy Ball till post game. FUCK. I need solid grass coverage for Bertha (Debatable) and against Milotic on Cythnia. So I spend in unmodified Safari Zone. 4x speed. 3. hours. looking. for. a. single. Tangla. Quick saves won't work because I'm pretty sure the lucks mostly set. Cackle like a fucking madman when I catch it. A guess what. This thing sits on my team like a fucking tumour benching the fuck out because everytime I try to use it ita gets itself killed. Biggest fucking Jobber for all that work.
Specific request from both mGF and Mate that I had forgotten about. Mate fought like he'll against Cyrus and it was a long series of it just managing to scrap over him. This was then followed by an endurance game of Giratina in the pursuit of not using the master ball. This went on for several hours until Mate surrendered and used the master ball. I caught Giratina in 4 resets. MGF just used Master ball and avoided the whole ordeal lol.
Against Eterna and Snowpoint I got my ass beat various times more than my friends. But aside from Snowpoint being a pain in both Mate and Mines ass, the funniest Gym was Sunnyshore. Mate was first to beat the gym (I think) and proceeded to mop the floor with hum, but felt like he'd gotten too lucky, few too many misses for Vaulkner, too many ranges just being lucky enough. So he reset after victory, feeling that he hadn't earned his triumph. So the game, in feeling its gift to him be spat on decided to change tune. Mate went from very lucky to realising he actually had gotten pretty decent luck, because the next couple of hours involved him refighting the gym for several hours. 4 if I'm not mistaken. I went to bed as Mate found out the Curse the game had given him as no matter what he changed or did he could not repeat success with paralyses reaching double digits, speed ties being lost and worst of all, Mates team were basically all Male. Unintended, of course, but now Ghost hanging over the team. Luxury has Rivialry. Unlike in my fight or MGFs Mate had to watch in horror as Luxury did significantly more damage to him than he expected and had to desperately pray that it might low roll. But Luxury had been gifted the incel power of the white Knight and was prepared to protect his Queen Vaulkner no matter the cost. And the cost was Mates time and sanity. Victory came, but the scars lived on.
Wormadam trash is actually surprisingly good but Vespiqueen begins to fall off. No-one really switches up their team much. And for me, the elite 4 and most of the game goes pretty smoothly. Despite their underusuage among fans, they're decent mons and I'm not just using Infernape and Raichu for everything. Tangrowth does it's job against Bertha but Whiscash my goat also helps clean that up. Wormadam bug bite and vespiqueen Attack order are solid options that beat up Lucian and Flint/Aaron doesn't stand much of a chance. Cynthia though, she poses the greatest obstacles. Whiscash is a mixed attacker and I've got Ice beam ready to send Garchomp packing. But there's a catch: It's a two shot. My Ivs/Evs weren't enough to get the job done so whiscash needs to live a hit. And Spiritomb won't go down easily to any of my mons, Togekiss beats up on basically all my mons except Raichu but Garchomp always comes in if I try that shit. Set mode, no easy switches. So after several failed attempts, I perform calculations running every possibility. It's of note that mGF beats this shit slowly with her great team of Empoleon, Roserade, Alakazam, Altaria, Rapidash and Toxicroak. Toxicroak even gets the dry skin hydropump lmao. As was expected, Cynthia is just tough. That goes for 4 hours of calcing and going back and forth because she is definitely underleveled. Mate helps her out along the way, and when she does win we cheer. His team on the other hand: Torterra, Machamp, Magmortar, Scizor, Vaporeon, Mismagius. The battle lasts less than 10 minutes, it is surgeically clean. Now I'd give you more in-depth information but I did this a while ago and I only wrote my line of battle down from my calcs just know they did amazingly well and while mGF is still learning alot of things, they're picking up alot fast. My ass needed to revise the typecharts after years of playing because I kept getting resistances wrong so no shame there.
Now, on to my main event...
Running the numbers, not a single mon I have can 1HKO the damn Spiritomb. It taunts me (not literally) with that knowledge as its many souls seek to add my ranks to there's. Of my 4 options, I have Whiscash Surf, Raichu Thunder, Infernape Flare Blitz, and surprisingly Tangrowth Power Whip, Miracle Seed needed. So I laugh, look at the first three options. Whiscash cannot survive two garchomp hits, but Whiscash can 1HKO if I get it in safely then. Raichu can handle Togekiss then, with two Thunderbolts and Infernape can handle Roserade and Lucario. But then what handle Milotic? Raichu or Tangrowth can do it but Raichu's probably dead by this stage and Tangrowth gets outsped and dies to Icebeam.
This whole time I'm doing this calc I was trying to find a purpose for Vespiqueen and Wormadan Trash. Neither can deal with Spiritomb. The bugs have finally been bested. I look through everything I can on them in the hope of finding something. And then it dawns on me. And I'm ready.
Entering the battle chamber for the 19th time hits like it did the first time. I thought I was ready before, but now I know what I need to do if I can ever truly win. Spiritomb verses...Tangrowth? Doesn't it have shit special defence? Yes, but surprisingly, it's faster than Spiritomb. To my shock, it hits both of the 85% accurate power whips, for once the gods have not abandoned me. It takes on Spiritomb but is left weaker in the process. I'd assumed it would send it Togekiss next, but no, Garchomp. Fuck fuck fuck that wasn't in the plan! Nothing can tank garchomp for one turn. Vespiqueen, I'm sorry. Vespiqueen is sacrificed at the alter, and Whiscash takes up the stage. Surviving a hit, it cleans out garchomp. And next comes in Togekiss? Wait not Roserade? Wait shit this might actually work but fuck I was hoping Milotic would be down before Raichu had to come out. Whiscash tries and failed against Togekiss, but that's ok buddy, you did what needed to be done. Raichu enters. Raichu takes down Togekiss despite being very injured, and out comes Roserade. Fuck. Problem now is Infernape needs to kill 2 mons and Milotic is still hanging around, like a shark circling waiting to strike. Fuck, this isn't good. I keep Raichu in against Roserade's attack. It's a gamble, but it means going all in on a friend.
Raichu goes down, tagging the Roserade into healing range with Hyper Beam. It goes down and Infernape takes the stage. Flare Blitz with Shell Bell takes it down and out comes the last Behemoth: Milotic. Ice Beam, Mirror Coat, Surf and Dragon Pulse. Anything that enters its domain will be trampled now. But Infernape will not be the solider to bare its wrath. Out comes Wormadam. Now Wormadam trash is by no means truly trash. It's one of the least used mons in the game, and the steel one is specifically the least used steel type. With 69 in both defence and special defence (nice) It's not strong but it can hold. And so, I gave it one last tool to withstand Milotic: The quick claw. Wormadam has an impressive choice of moves at its disposal, and can use its typing to take advantage of that but it has one job here; Bring on the Sun. Doing so serves two purposes; but right now it weakens Milotics surf. And wouldn't you know it? Quick Claw activates. Now Wormadam would have survived two hits, but thanks to that proc it gets to survive 4. Now we have a problem. Wormadam will not deal the final blow, and now that the sun is Here, it's job is done. Tangrowth is waiting for their time to shine, but it's weak now, can't take the hit. I may have made a mistake. Turn 1 of sun passes and I feel the Sun begin to set on my plan. The quick claw was a joke, a hope, a prayer that maybe in case of crit at least Wormadam would do their job. But now their life threatens the path to victory, and there's nothing I can do.
Turn 2 of Sun. Bug Bite v Surf. Despite the harsh sun, Milotic knows the water will rise again. It taunts me, laughs at my misery as Wormadam tries with all its might.
Turn 3 of Sun. Milotic's hubris gets the best of it and Wormadam is embraced as a matyr for my cause. Finally, it's time
Turn 4 of Sun. Tangrowth takes the stage as Wormadam salutes it one last time as Milotic plunges it once more beneath the waves. Milotic prepares Ice Beam cackling at my desperation. But Tangrowth is ready. It...outspend Milotic? Wait what? Oh I didn't mention. The second purpose of the Sun. Tangrowth has Chlorophyll. Despite Milotic beating out Tangrowth by 30 points of speed, when doubled by the Sun, Tangrowth is hit by the speed force. Barry Allen himself couldn't keep up with the monster I've created. But Sun only lasts 5 turns. Time is running out. And hp is not looking good for Tangrowth. Battered and bruised all that speed will only give it one chance to take it home. I consider Giga drain, maybe then it'll hold on, but it won't. Ice Beam is an executioner and no Hp can save your head from its Noose. Power Whip it is. And....
It hits. Omg it actually hits! Let's fucking....wait.....it didn't kill?!?!?! I got unlucky with the range? No no no no no no fuck ok but.....what the fuck do....
Ice Beam. The answer to my question was always going to be Ice Beam.
It hits and.....Tangrowth fucking live?!?! On 4 hp!?!? I know Spiritom didn't get it out of green but it's a milotic it....I got lucky....
Turn 5 of Sun. The last chance.
Tangrowth knows the plan and doesn't hesitate. If I had more Sun time I could Swords Dance and guarantee this like I'd hoped but no. Power Whip. I've gotten lucky until now. But all luck must run out...
Milotic heals. Full restore. Back to square 1. All the bug bites and whips leave no scars on its beautiful snake like body and it waits.
Tangrowth.....hits? It hits? My luck , it's not over! The health bar ticks down and then....my body leaves my soul behind as I let out a cheer inhuman and unknown to me. Milotic let's out a sad cry of defeat and goes down. The battle it's...not over yet. Lucario enters the scene.
No turns left of Sun
Tangrowth reaches for Earthquake, but is swiftly left in the shade of war. Aura Sphere snipes it as tries to fight back. Rest well Tangrowth, this victory is yours.
Infernape enters the seen. Everything should be perfect for Infernape but it's injured. Flare Blitz will do the most but will push Infernape to its breaking point, and the Shell Bell it carries won't change that. And if its too low Lucario will smell it's weakened opponent and with Extreme Speed will send it to the grave. I have to hope. Infernape Flare Blitz. Lucario staggers back, clutching it's wounds, and with a knowing smile, it faints. I stare with utter fear as Infernapes health bar ticks down. Not like this, not after everything, it can't end like this.
15....14..13...12
Come on Infernape don't
....6...5...4.....4....
Wait.
4HP.
It's Over.
A second Scream of joy comes out and I probably wake up my room mate in the process. I've done it! I'VE FUCKING DONE.
And as my team is entered into the Hall of Fame, I look at my team and think "No, we did it"
But the journey is not over yet. The Adventures are just getting started
