In less than 4 hours, the year 2022 as we know it will cease to exist in my time region.
I'd be lying if I say the year has been a great one. So many lives were lost in the popular circles. They were irreplaceable parts of my childhood. So, it felt like a piece of my life just vanished one after another, reminding me that the bygones be bygones.
But the one that hit the hardest? My extended family had to suffer the loss of a dear loved one. It came without warning, and we barely had the chance to say goodbye. Until now, that grief lives on, tormenting many of us, even when it does not seem so at a glance. In my case, it took a toll on my health, both physical and mental.
Of course, there were some accomplishments and joys. As the world reopened, I got the chance to visit my family in another country again. I also moved forward to learn something new, a goal I've had since before the pandemic. But does the good outweigh the bad? I can't really say for sure.
One thing I'm certain of, however, is "Good riddance, 2022!" I'm indeed grateful for the many lessons learned and knowledge known throughout the year. Then again, in all honesty, I'm even more grateful that 2022 is ending soon. This heavy and challenging year was too much for me to handle at times. So I'm relieved and glad that I have made it to these final hours not entirely shattered to pieces.
There is no telling what the future holds. Will 2023 be better than 2022? Or will it ignite more chaos between nations, dividing brothers and sisters within one, sowing and nurturing unnecessary hatred and distortion that affects the entire world?
I hope that's not the case. I pray that won't be the case. But who am I to say this, when I am just a tiny speck of dust in the grand mechanism of things? So, on that note, I simply wish to go where I'm supposed to go and be where I need to be. And hopefully, still, be in one piece despite the cracks and waves of damage that 2022 has brought on me.
Goodbye, 2022. I'm not going to miss you.
