I made Sylvia from Wander Over Yonder using Sculpey. It might not be a perfect model, but I think it turned out good enough. This was a birthday gift for my grandmother. She was really good at hockey when she was young (in fact, she could have been a national champion, if not for an unfortunate turn of events), so I made Sylvia hold a hockey stick. Sylvia is very persistent and determined, so I think my grandma would like her if she watched Wander. This figure is also a survivor. It fell apart two times during the making. First time was due to a design flaw, which I was then able to amend, but the second time was completely accidental and happened when the figure was finished. As I was about to take the final photo she fell from table & crashed. At that point I honestly felt like giving up. But the next day I made a replacement for the parts that were lost, then went to my grandma’s place, and using superglue I assembled the figure right there. YES!

Happy Hallowe’en!
Hey, Matt! Simon said hello. LOL. Okay, here’s the full story behind these. Last month, a compilation of Simon Hanselmann’s “Megg, Mogg & Owl” comics was published in Russia, so he came to visit during Boomfest in St. Petersburg, and later, Comic Con Moscow. At Boomfest, he did a short presentation and a Q&A, and then was signing the books for the rest of the day. Being the awesome guy that he is, he actually drew requests instead of just doing his signature. Here’s how it went for me. When I was introduced to Megg & Mogg, it instantly reminded me of Matt Furie’s Boy’s Club, which I’ve read before, and am a fan of. To me (and I mean it in a good way), both read like some kind of a weird version of a sitcom. A surreal, lazy-spirited, sometimes twisted, sometimes disgusting, but ultimately funny and uniquely charming sitcom. So naturally, during the Q&A I wanted to know if there was any connection between the two comics and their authors. Simon said that he knows Matt and Boy’s Club, that Matt was actually a guest artist among others in one of the comics, that he can’t wait until his characters get owned by the internet and transformed into memes like Pepe, and jokingly concluded, to quote verbatim: “...but I started Megg & Mogg BEFORE Matt did Boy’s Club, so HE ripped me off.” So at the signing, I decided to take his joke further by asking him to sign my Boy’s Club the way you see on this photo. He did that neat Megg & Mogg x Boys Club crossover just like I asked, too. Fantastic. Thank you, Simon. Thank you, Matt.
Something went wrong with that face.
