Punch this week š Punch spent most of this week doing what he does best: running, climbing, playing, and somehow still finding time to drag his orange plushie mama around Monkey Mountain.
The zoo says he's especially active in the evenings, which probably won't surprise anyone who's been following his adventures.
When people tell the story of D-Day, they usually talk about the soldiers, ships, and aircraft that crossed the English Channel on June 6, 1944. Less often do they mention the animals that went too. From paradogs and ship cats to messenger pigeons and horses, these animals became part of one of the most significant days of World War II.

A family in England discovered that neighborhood cats had been sneaking into their kitchen for 6 months, while a runaway kangaroo paid a visit to a Texas car dealership.
A baby elephant trying to look intimidating, a bear rummaging through a car trunk, giant otter pups learning to swim at Chester Zoo, and 27 rescued moon bears arriving safely at a sanctuary in Laos, thanks to the Free the Bears team.
Punch Update 5/28/26 Punch spent part of this week resting after worrying visitors with what looked like an arm injury. Even some of the older monkeys and his friends seemed to notice something was off. The zoo later confirmed that the vets found no abnormalities, though theyāll continue monitoring him closely.
At the Rosemary Branch Theatre in London, there's a cat named Mariah. She found herself outside the place on a freezing night and decided to stay. Now she's a chill theatre cat with a princess box at the bar and a queue of people waiting to meet her. We spoke with Siobhan from the Rosemary Branch about Mariah, theatre life, regulars, and how a cat ended up becoming part of one small corner of London. Also, for anyone who saw the news this week, the zoo confirmed no monkeys were hurt after two people entered the enclosure.

Larry the cat refused to comment outside Downing Street, peregrine falcons dive-bombed researchers in San Jose, an endangered monk seal pup was born in Waikīkī, a rescue dog named Boomer found a missing man, a taxi driver in Thailand now works alongside the orange cat she rescued, and people in Paris rescued a dog from the Seine.
Punch spent this week climbing new playground equipment, wrestling his friends, bringing his plushie around, getting groomed without returning the favor, and cleaning up poop (he remembers to wash his hands afterward!) Itās getting hotter at the zoo, but that hasnāt slowed him down much. Heās still doing whatever he wants.
A cat named Frank has been living at a bus depot in Exeter for the past 3 years, becoming part of the daily routine for staff who say he brings comfort and calm to their workdays.
Now, a decision could remove him from the depot.

A massive sea lion nicknamed Chonkers has been taking over Pier 39 in San Francisco, while a crocodile wandered into a hotel kitchen in Zimbabwe.
Also this week, a wombat blocked a pipe and walked out on its own, a sheep gave birth to 6 lambs, a wild orangutan used a canopy bridge for the first time, a dog named Ellbie was rescued after being stuck on a ledge, and Timmy the whale is finally going home!!
Punch update: Heās never alone now
This week, Punch wasnāt on his own when things got rough. Other monkeys stepped in, stayed close, and let him be part of everything. Heās playing more, keeping up, and even getting curious about the new baby on the mountain.
This weekās animal stories: A black bear was safely brought down from a tree in New York, while a sea lion found a row of backpacks to nap on in the Galapagos. Chickens are babysitting kittens, wild horses ran across a ski resort in Spain, the worldās oldest rabbit turned 15, rehabilitated penguins were released back into the ocean, and a dog named Miller finally found his forever home.
