Who are we?!

This is Kelvin, a 22 year old student of ‘HKU’ in Utrecht. His specialism is Product Design. In the project he designed the systems on the deck and is responsible for the end result of Future Island. 

This is Willeke, a 23 year old year student of ‘HKU’ in Utrecht.  Her specialism is Spatial Design. In the project she has a main role in the organisation, PR and visualizing ideas to make it understandable for everyone. 

This is Beertje, a 22 year old student of ‘HKU’ in Utrecht. Her specialism is Vsiual Arts and Design Management. In the project she has a main role in the organisation, managing and production of Future Island. 

This is Justin, a 22 year old student of ‘HKU’ in Utrecht. His specialism is Art ,Visual & Media. In the project he made an experimental light installation on the Future Island. 

This is Niall, a 23 year old alumni of IADT in Dublin, Ireland. His specialism is Fine Arts. In the project he designed the furniture and is responsible for the end result of Future Island. 

This is Colm, a 26 year old alumni of IADT in Dublin, Ireland. His specialism is Fine Arts. In the project he designed the furniture and is responsible for the final result of Future Island.

Europe by People

Europe by People is the arts and design programme organised during the Dutch presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2016.

How it started

Since april 2016 the head of the Java-Island is a place full of innovative and circulair initiatives. As students we are involved in the Europe by People off campus program. We all got the chance to discover an area in Amsterdam. Our current group chose for the area Buiksloterham. Our client is De Ceuvel and Frank Alsema, an important initiator of circular Buiksloterham. More information about the upcoming events and what is happening right know, you can find on www.buiksloterham.nl. 

First we did some research in the area to get an overview on what kind of area Buiksloterham is. We interviewed some people around the Van der Pekstraat and concluded the following things.

- People are happy to live in Buiksloterham.

- There is a good mix of different kind of people.

- People feel safe on the streets.

- Quiet yet close to the city centre.

- Green area

- Social control
