Video by @TimLaman. A male Costa’s Hummingbird feeding at aloe flowers. This is shot in slow motion at 75fps, but these hummingbirds are so fast that you can hardly tell it is slowed down by 3x. Filmed as part of my project documenting the birdlife of the Sunnylands Center and Gardens, a sanctuary in Rancho Mirage, California. See my exhibit there through June if you are in the Palm Springs / Coachella Valley area
Video @filipe_deandrade @brianmoghari // To our eyes, there’s no way to breakdown what is happening here. But at 2,800 frames per second, you can see this male Talamanca Hummingbird push off this female from a flower. What does 2,800 frames per second mean? What happens 1 second plays out at over 1.5 minutes…that’s super slo-mo! Hummingbirds live their lives at a constant state of friction because they need to consume almost their body weight in calories every day. That means a lot of fighting and feeding. Dis you see her tongue stick out there at the end trying to catch one last drop of nectar? To see more of this drama play out in “Untamed Costa Rica,” check out the Untamed facebook page. See y'all there wildlife warriors. Follow @filipe_deandrade for more wildlife adventures. #costarica

Bibbity bobbity boo!
I had my own fairy godmother this weekend at comic con. So magical.
I slowed the actual transformation down 200% so you can see just how brilliant it is… From the first sign of the ballgown to completely changed takes less than 3 seconds. That is some epic-level crafting.
@justhere4coffee thank you! Wanted it to be as quick a transformation as possible!

Today was it! This is day he finally moved in with his darlings! Goodness, Nick was so happy he could break out into song right here right now. Instead, he just let out a content sigh for the millionth time today before placing the last of his clothes into the bedroom closet he now shared with Neo. The majority of the morning had been spent putting away both his and the youngling’s new belongings. Fortunately Nick didn’t have too much stuff, and the little one seemed to be enjoying his old toys.
There was one last thing had to take care of. The young man was grinning from ear to ear as he stepped out of Neo’s bedroom into the living room. He spotted the youngling sitting on the rug playing with a Little People farmyard set he recalled his mum getting him for his fourth birthday. The adorable sight warmed his heart, but there was another adorable little cutie who wasn’t afraid to let him know how grumpy he was with him for keeping him in the carrier for so long.
“Alright, alright, I’m sorry to keep you waiting.” Nick huffed over the cranky mews coming from the animal carrier by the sofa. “But I couldn’t keep an eye you, and put everything away at the same time.” He then turn back to his daughter with his hand on the latch to the carrier. “You ready to meet Bean, honey? He’s very sweet, but you gotta be gentle with him, alright?”
“L-Liam, wait!” Nick called out in a panic as he scrambled to his feet. He was about to call out to the other two in the living room to warn them about the furious, over protective demon coming their way when Neo stepped in. His shoulders sagged with relief that Neo managed to reassure their boyfriend enough that he wouldn’t try ripping the broken angel limb to limb. At least for the moment…
He turned away from the tense scene to scoop his precious daughter into his loving arms. “There, there, honey. Everything is gonna be alright. Your papa just wants to make sure we’re all safe.” Nick whispered to soothingly while nuzzling is cheek against her. “I think this calls for some nice, relaxing green tea.” He murmured outloud, adjusting the little girl to be resting on his hip as he began prepping for brewing. Although, he kept glancing over his shoulder back at Agameby with a worried look in his eyes. Was there something more to him than what they had already witnessed from him? Hopefully Neo would be able to explain to all of them once tensions had gone down.
Liam was shaking a bit, gripping Neo a bit lower than would be considered appropriate, but Neo just stayed still, humming gently and leaning up to take hold of his mate’s horns, gently tilting his gaze downward so he could give him a soft kiss on the lips. Liam shuddered, but eventually was soothed by the action, purring gently. He paused after the kiss broke, and let go of Neo, shooting Agameby one last dirty look before he ran to the attic.
The Angel just sat silently aside from the occasional sob or sniffle, staring at the ceiling. Neo sighed, looking back at him and hesitating before he sat down next to him. He couldn’t think of anything to say at first. He broke the silence with a kind, “Does it hurt?” Agameby’s slow-moving eyes went to rest on him. He choked back another sob, only managing, “i’m s-so sorry... i’m so sorry...” He kept repeating it, and Neo shivered. Apparently it only hurt on the inside.
Lucy - it had been a bit since he had last visited Neo. But this time, it was different - he had gotten a gift for the other seeing him as a new friend. Another difference, he decided to knock on the front door of Neo's cabin rather then to just pop up.
Neo was sitting on the couch, just staring at the wall and thinking, with Krov next to him. He flinched a bit when he heard the knock at the door, but when it wasn’t followed by a demon screeching at him, he relaxed a bit, patting Krov gently before getting up to answer the door. When he opened the door he felt himself blush a bit and he smiled. “Oh, h-hey Lucy! What brings you to this side of the world?” He stepped aside so Lucy could come inside.
Lucy - his smile grew seeing the other when the door opened, “hey Neo, just wanted to drop by and thought I’d bring you something while visiting ~” he stepped inside while speaking. In his hand was a small gift box; it was thin but a bit long with the box being red and the bow design being black. “I think you’ll really like it”
“O-oh, a gift? I d-don’t really deserve a gift, but t-thank you in advance.” He closed and locked the door behind Lucy, then turned to look at the box, intensely curious on what was inside it. He took it gently, inspecting the box before starting to open it carefully.
Lucy - he chuckled softly and shook his head, “I think you deserve it, you’ve been such a pleasure to be around.” Upon Neo opening the box, a knife was revealed. But not just any knife - the blade and handle a beautifully crafted shinning black, with detailed carvings along the blade. The grip of the handle tightly wound with leather for a comfortable but sterdy grip.
Neo gasped, his eyes widening. He took out the knife, setting the box aside as he slowly grinned. “Woah…” He gave it a few twirls, then traced a finger across the blade, shivering when it made a small cut. “Thank you!” He hugged Lucy with the arm that wasn’t holding the knife, nuzzling his shoulder gently. “It’s beautiful…” He was looking at Lucy while he said it, and blushed faintly.
Lucy - he beamed seeing how much Neo enjoyed the knife, happy the gift was a good choice. He hugged the other back with both arms, gazing back at Neo as the two looked at each other. “No problem. I’m so glad you like it ~”
He giggled a bit in glee, letting go of Lucy to put his new knife on a shelf next to the rest of his favorite knives. Then he went back over to Lucy, stretching a bit. “So, are you just dropping in for a few minute, or are you going to stay a bit longer?~” He was hoping Lucy would stick around, He was really starting to love his company…
Lucy - he beamed a bit more seeing where Neo placed the knife. Upon the other walking back over and making the inquiry, he shrugged a little. “I was hoping to stay ~ I’ve grown quite fond of you and our time together.”
“Wonderful!” He visibly stood a bit straighter, then asked, “Would you like some tea? I’m making some now. It’s rosehip.” He didn’t think he’d be able to actually drink his tea now, his stomach was writhing, and he was incredibly nervous.
Lucy - he chuckled softly seeing Neo perk up more and noded once to the inquiry, “I would love some tea, thank you” he reached up and lightly ruffled the other’s hair as a sign of endearment, smiling contently. “Such a kind host you are, Neo.”
He blushed and fidgetted with his hands, a bit flustered at being praised. He stuttered out a thanks, then went off to the kitchen to get the tea for Lucy. The whole time he was there he felt like he was glowing, and he felt like he was on cloud nine. After a minute he came back out with the tea, offering it to Lucy then sitting on the couch, not being able to tear his eyes away from Lucy.
Lucy - he gratefully took the cup from Neo upon his return while murmuring thank you. Smiling happily, he took a seat next to the other before taking a sip from the cup. Tilting his head, he inqired, “so how’ve you been between now and the last time we talked?”
Neo shifted a bit, shrugging. “Not very good, honestly… Really lonely. How about you?” He was feeling a bit distracted, he wasn’t expecting a visitor, so he may have… smoked a bit.
Lucy - a slight frown tugged at his lips and he gently placed a hand on Neo’s shoulder. “I see… would you like to spend more time together then? I could even take you to my place for some new scenery if you’d like.” He smiled slightly to the other. It wouldn’t matter to him if Neo smoked or not before the visit, all to their own.
Neo paused, then nodded slightly. “T-That might be nice…” He gently leaned into Lucy’s hand, shivering. “Yeah. I’d love to.” He said, making up his mind.
Lucy - he smiled softly to Neo, gently giving the other’s shoulder a light squeeze. “Then I’ll bring you to my place sometime soon. We can go whenever you like, be it during this visit or another, okay?” He paused then looked away eith his eyes - not in a negative way but in remembering to add: “it’s a bit… chaotic. But in a good way, tho a tad annoying sometimes”
Neo nodded a bit. “I would think so… I-If it’s ok I’d like to go now rather than later. Oh, wait!” He called out in Russian, and a moment later Krov came sliding up to them, and Neo picked him up, holding him close to his chest. “Ok, n-now we can go.”
Lucy - he chuckled softly, not minding that Krov would be coming with. It would likely be just as good for Krov to have a new scenery as it would Neo. Smiling, he commented, “then we’ll being going now, since you’re ready.” Suddenly, reality seemed to be gone for a split second. It was like non-existance while existing - but warm and vuagely comfy unlike how most expect non-existance might feel. Suddenly, when reality was instantly back, the three were now in an office room that seemed like it would belong to a very important person.
Neo flinched a bit, then looked around, taking in the room. “Woah… this is your room?” Krov was shivering a bit. The feeling of not existing for a moment was reminding him of how it felt for the few minutes he was dead.
Neo was giggling like a child, exited to be in a new, interesting place.
Lucy - he chuckled seeing Neo take everything in excitedly, smiling contently. With a nod, he spoke, “yup. I’m the king of hell after all ~” he winking at Neo playfully, his tone in between joking and honest - it was hard to tell which was correct. “Wanna look around? There’s lots of cool stuff here”
Neo was more than shocked, going silent for a second. “Oh… honestly that makes much more sense… It felt a bit off here.” He shook it off, although he was more on edge now, expecting a certain demon to pop up and remind him that he wasn’t safe. He hugged Krov closer. “I suppose, sure.” Krov was shivering now, his wings folded and ears flattened. Goodness he felt so vulnerable, if only he had flesh instead of tacky stuffing…
Lucy - he could instantly feel the two grow anxious, and his tone changed to suddenly be very serious. “You both are safe. This is my domain, and in my domain none may hirt either of you.” He looked at Neo with his eyes, which were now very aware and cat like. “If anything were to try to go against my wishes, I would crush it. I want you safe. Your safey is no game to me.” He then gently ruffled the other’s hair, voice much more gentle. “There are a great many hells. A great many form of demon and devil. My kin, from the realm of my birth, mean you no harm and here is safe. If any who are not my kin try to mess with either of you here, they will be met with a whole deal of trouble”
Neo shuddered. “That’s not who I’m worried about. He’s…” He trailed off, a look of terror passing over his face. “He’s been k-killed many times, but he never dies. M-My…” Neo had to take a deep breath. “My father created him as a sort of c-curse.” Krov was curled up in a ball now, muttering, “f-fersephlus…” Neo cringed at the name. “I don’t doubt your power or your people, I just… He’s been hurting me for a long time, and I’m scared that he’ll possess me. It feels…” He gagged, then tried to shake it off. “Let’s just go. I’ll feel better.”
Lucy - he lightly took Neo’s hand, making sure not to disrupt Krov much. “Then onward. But… do you want me to investigate this curse? Perhaps it can be removed. I’m not the biggest in removal magics abd so forth, but I know people” He lead them to the door, opening it for Neo. Murmuring softly, “I hate the thought of anything hurting you.”
“N-No, no, he’s not a curse. It just feels like it sometimes.” He squeezed Lucy’s hand softly, muttering a small thanks as Lucy held the door for him. He looked around, a bit on edge but trying to keep his cool for Krov’s sake.

Nick’s eyes brighten with interest when he’s reminded about the naming ceremony coming up. “How’s that coming along? Have Liam and you decided on a name?” He was leaving the naming up to them as he wasn’t familiar with demon names, and felt it was appropriate the youngling received one. The human ones he thought of just didn’t seem to fit the little one.
A giddy giggle escaped from Nick as he picked up a dry wash cloth to help dry the dishes. He managed to steal a quick kiss from Neo when he least expected it. The young man grinning to himself like the cat that got the cream while he wiped off a few dishes set by the sink.
“Well there’s a few more things we have to find, and of course we’ll need to set it up in the attic. We’re thinking of naming her Isgona, after a kind demoness of legend.” He blushed a bit at the quick kiss, gently hip-bumping him. “Dork~”
The youngling was hugging her bubbles close without popping them, purring. Her frills flared out, and she carefully put the bubbles on her frills, wiggling happily when they stayed there fairly well. After a moment she had an idea, and flapped her frills really quickly, sending bubbling floating through the air with a cheer.
“Isgona sounds like a beautiful name. I love it, and I’m sure our youngling will too.” He couldn’t wait for the ceremony to finally happen. Soon they’d get the chance for the young girl to actually talk with them! Gosh, there was so much Nick wanted to show and teach her. He chuckled as Neo playfully bumped into him. “Hey! You’re one to talk, haha!” Nick playfully stuck his tongue out at his boyfriend when a bubble floated past his face.
“Huh?” He blinked in surprise as his bright green eyes landed on the source. “Well it looks like we’ve got a bubble princess now wouldn’t you say so, Dearest?” Nick playfully bowed to the demon youngling with a grin before popping a few of the bubbles in the air. “Goodness, imagine if we got you one of those electric bubble guns. You’d leave everything sticky with bubble solution for days, hehe!”
Neo giggled, nodding and bowing a little in agreement. The youngling cooed and clapped her hands, grinning. She tilted her head at the mention of a bubble gun, not understanding what that meant. Neo snorted and bit back laughter. “I’ll have to remember not to get one of those any time soon.”
His thoughts were interrupted by a dreadfully familiar sound of the sky tearing open with a screech. Neo nearly dropped the plate he held, and he set it down hastily. “Make sure Liam and her stay inside.” How was Agameby back so soon? He rushed to the door, getting his coat and a gun.
Liam was distressed, rushing to his youngling and hugging her close, all of his wings wrapping around her tight as he cowered in a corner of the kitchen, shaking.
Nick was chuckling alongside Neo, only to freeze at the horrific earsplitting screech that immediately brought back memories of the bonfire. “Is… Is that wh-who I think it is?” His voice wavering with fear as all the color drained from his face. What was that angel doing back here again!? He would have thought after facing Fersephlus Agameby would think twice before returning!
“P-please stay safe, Dear! Be careful!” Nick called out to Neo, tears already brimming in his eyes. Oh god, was he gonna summon that awful demon again?! He rushed over to Liam and their youngling’s side before kneeling down, and throwing his arms around them in a desperate embrace. “Just sit tight, Sweetie. We won’t let him touch you, or our little one.” Nick pressed a reassuring kiss to his boyfriend’s lips before giving their sweet youngling one on the cheek. “Be brave for Da, alright honey?”
Reluctantly, he pulled away from the two of them, and snatched a bag of salt out of the cupboard. Nick wasn’t sure this plan would work twice if Neo was indeed going to summon Fersephlus again, but he better start prepping now! He raced from room to room, sprinkling salt on the windowsills and doorways, catching a glimpse of Agameby through the front window curtains.
Liam hissed and started shaking when Nick took out the salt, not understanding what he was doing, but when he saw him putting it on the windowsills he calmed down, hiding himself in his wings and cooing comfortingly to the youngling.
Agameby now had a three-clawed scar slashed across his face, but both his eyes still radiated with fury. He was shaking a bit, but his wings were spread wide, and he looked more animalistic now. Although Nick couldn’t hear his words, he was screaming at Neo.
Neo was a few meters from the furious angel, holding a shimmering white flower in his right hand, and a gun in his other. He wasn’t shaking this time, although he could feel the rage building.
Nick flashed Liam an apologetic look before returning to his task. So long as the two demons stayed away from the windows and entryways for the time being they ought to be alright. Right now he had to focus on putting all this salt down to keep his family safe. Even as he finished up the living room, and moved to the bedroom, his mind was still on the nail biting stand off between his love and a villianous angel.
Agameby looked ready to snap Neo’s neck right then and there. It was written all over the angel’s face that he wouldn’t be going easy on them this time… Oh god, Neo was facing him all alone! Maybe there’s a way he could contact Towok and Liz for help, but Nick had a gut feeling the angel would probably cream those two. And then there was that strange flower he spotted his boyfriend holding up…
Nick hurriedly finished up by spreading salt on the attic windows, and nearly fell from the ladder in his rush back to the front window. He wrenched open the curtain, his hand trembling as he feared what kind of sight he would be met with.
Agameby had golden tears running down his face now, still furious. The last time his energy had seemed contained, but he was losing his grip, his emotions getting the best of him. The window Nick was at was opened a little at the bottom, and he could hear Agameby shreik. “YOU DID THIS! YOU RUINED MY FACE! EVERYONE HATES ME NOW THAT I’M NOTHING BUT A… A FREAK! ANGELS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TOO PERFECT TO HAVE SCARS! YOU’VE DESTROYED MY LIFE!”
Neo’s hands clenched, and he couldn’t hold back anymore. “You have NO idea what it’s like to suffer! You killed her, you murdered her in cold blood, and left me with only my father! He beat me EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN DAY! I WOULDN’T BE LIKE THIS IF IT WASN’T FOR YOU!” He pointed the gun at Agameby’s head, aimed to kill the instant the Angel tried anything.
Those words made Agameby fall silent. His rage was quickly extinguished. His eyes were wide with realization, and he looked at his hands, which started to shake. He muttered something unintelligible from Nick’s vantage point, then the tears really started flowing as he fell to his knees, screaming in anguish and terror. He was perfect! He couldn’t have done something like that, God wouldn’t lie to him like that!… Would she?
Neo relaxed a little bit, approaching the Angel with a righteous light in his eyes. He still had the gun aimed straight at his head, but he looked at the flower in his hand, struggling for a moment before throwing away his gun and dropping to kneel in front of the Angel, shuddering before making up his mind and holding out the flower. “I… I forgive you.” The flower’s petals turned a shining gold, akin to Agameby’s wings.
The Angel looked up at him through tear filled eyes that grew wide in shock. He took a few moments to respond, carefully taking the flower from him. He screamed in pain, making Neo jump back to his feet to get away from him. Agameby hugged the flower close to his chest as his skin started getting glowing cracks in it, slowly expanding until his whole body shone with a blinding white light.
After a few moments the screaming stopped, and Agameby was lying on his side, facing away from Neo and the house. He was limp, but still breathing. His wings seemed lighter in color now, and his clothes were gone, changed instead to simple pure white basic clothes. But most shockingly, the skull symbol was emblazoned on the back of his shirt in yellow thread.
Nick’s hands were clasped over his mouth with his body trembling uncontrollably. Tears pricked his eyes at hearing all that Neo had to go through at the hands of this so called angel. Why would Agameby even do such a thing?! Did he just like hurting others, because what he did to dear Liam was clear proof that was the case!
He genuinely expected Agameby to laugh in his lover’s face at all the misery and torment he lived through. Perhaps even mock him outright for being ‘weak’ when Neo clearly was far stronger than him. Nick wasn’t prepared for the horrified expression on the angel’s face as he realized all that Neo said was true. Nick could only watch on, speechless at the sight of the once proud angel now wailing at his boyfriend’s feet.
His breath hitched as Neo approched Agameby with the gun pointed directly between his eyes. Nick immediately covered his eyes, shielding them from the bloodshed he was certain would follow only to be taken by surprise once again. Neo… forgave Agameby? Nick slowly pulled down his hands away from his watery green eyes. After all that he’d gone through, Neo still found a way to move on. He felt a surge of pride for his Dearest. Neo had every right to continue hating Agameby, but perhaps doing this can help the healing process for him.
The sudden screech of agony from the kneeling angel snapped Nick right back to the situation at hand. He gasped in horror as cracks formed along Agameby’s form. “Neo!” Without thinking, Nick burst out of the front door into the snow. Neo was in danger! His arms wrapped around the older man in a protective embrace when a light as bright as the sun blinded him for a few moments.
Nick groaned, and blinked his eyes a few times to clear his vision. “Ugh… N-Neo! Are you alright?! Wait… where’s Agameby?!” His head whipped around frantically for the angel, and his jaw dropping once he spotted the sudden change of appearance on the unconscious angel. “Wh-what happened…?” Nick turned to look up at Neo with wide and fearful eyes.
Neo was silent for a few seconds, wrapping his arms around Nick to hold him close. “I’m not sure. I’ve been working on this spell for a long time, but it’s still a bit… out there. But whatever happens next… She doesn’t have direct power over him anymore.”
He tensed up as Agameby groaned softly, this whole body shaking as he struggled to sit up, looking around in confusion before turning to look at them. Neo gasped softly when he saw Agameby’s eyes, which now looked like a human’s eyes. When he saw Neo he whimpered and his wings flickered for a moment. He scrambled to get to his feet, revealing the flower, which was now implanted in his neck, looking as if it had grown from there. He tried to speak but broke into a coughing fit, a few tears welling up, which were normal colored now.
Neo let go of Nick to walk to the defeated angel cautiously, then helped him to steady him, letting him lean on him, silent for a moment. Agameby managed out, “w-what h-happened?” Neo sighed, starting to lead him inside. “We’ll explain, but you need to get inside, or you’ll get frostbite.” He looked at Nick, a bit nervous but relaxed at his image. “Could you help me, darling? He can barely walk…”
“Sh-she?” Who was Neo talking about? Nick didn’t get the chance to ask as Agameby started to stir. He clung tightly to his boyfriend when the angel’s eyes fell on them. Agameby almost looked human now rather than a marble statue that came to life. Without hesitation, Nick hurried to the winged man’s side who was now coughing as if he’d hack up his own lungs.
He gave Neo a firm nod at his request, and looped Agameby’s arm around his neck with his right hand on the feeble angel’s back. The three of the slowly trudged back into the cabin over the salt line in the doorway. “I put salt over the windows again… I’ll g-get to cleaning that up in a moment, dear.” Nick ducked his head bashfully, as he helped sit Agameby on the sofa.
“I’ll start some tea then, and go check on the others first.” Nick leaned up to press a chaste kiss to Neo’s lips before giving Agameby one last concerned glance, and heading to the kitchen. He made a beeline right to Liam and their youngling where he knelt down to pull the both of them into a relieved embrace. “A-Agameby’s in the living room, b-but he’s changed…” Quickly explaining before his dearest could jump to conclusions. “Neo did s-something. Said ‘she’ can’t control him anymore…” Still having no idea who this could refer to.
Shame by went limp when he was sat on the sofa, his cough dying down. He was crying a little still, disgusted with himself. His whole upbringing was a lie. A disgusting, twisted lie. What wasn’t a lie? Was he a lie? Just made up by someone else? He wasn’t an Angel, at least not what he’d always thought they were.
Neo put a hand on Agameby’s forehead, shivering at how cold it was. “Ok, just be careful.”
Liam unwrapped his wings, hugging Nick tight, being careful not to squish the youngling. She seemed a bit unphazed by everything, kept calm held close to her father. Liam froze at the mention of Agameby, then set down his daughter, a deep, angry growl starting up in his chest. The innocent little youngling made grabby hands, concerned now. “Mh... D-Dada...” Liam just stood to his full height, racing to the living room with quick strides, and only being stopped because Neo was in the way. He spoke softly to the furious demon, “Hey, hey... It’s ok, love. He won’t hurt us. It’s ok. Calm...” He gently placed a hand on Liam’s heaving chest, pausing a moment before resting his forehead to it as well.
Liam hissed at Agameby, pulling Neo close and gripping onto him tightly while he glared at the angel. Agameby just stared at him for a moment before a fresh set of tears ran down his cheeks, and he sobbed quietly. Liam calmed down a little bit, but was still tense, ready to spring and kill him.
