As a medical professional and a medically complicated human this is very important to me
Thatâs not wrong.
These are both true
Both are very very true.
These are both true, but more importantly, not mutually exclusive!
Say a patient comes in with chest pain. First time theyâve ever had chest pain. They say they googled it, and clearly they have cancer now!
âŠno. Thatâs the first example.
But say a patient has chest pain, theyâve had chest pain for 10 years, every previous doctor has checked for all the obvious causes, and nothing changes.
Thatâs a completely different scenario. In the first example, the patient doesnât know what theyâre talking about. The condition is new, their knowledge is limited. Thatâs why we have doctors. But in the second example, the patient is the expert, and the doctor is the one whoâs new to the situation. The patient has done all this before, and is very familiar with the pain (condition, etc.) that they have. The doctor is not the one with 10 years of experience. They need to listen, because the patient actually has something they donât know to add to the conversation.
These two things are not mutually exclusive, they are not the same scenario, and both doctors and patients (but mostly doctors) need to learn to tell the difference and know when to talk, and when to listen.
This is also *highly* relevant to anti-vaxers.
There is a reason that the entire section on dysthymia in my psychology textbooks is basically âthis person has been living with this for years longer than you will ever have researched it. help them facilitate their own coping strategies.â
this is the most sophisticated phishing e-mail I have ever received and if they had sized the logo correctly and actually proofread the fucking thing I probably wouldâve clicked that button
actually please reblog this because someone else got it too. do not click on the links in this e-mail if you get one like it, just forward it to [email protected] and delete it

Judai: When your parents keep on fighting and shouting at each other almost everydayâŠ
And IâM FLIPPIN SICK OF IT.
Canât they just think for a moment about those who are living in the house and flippin listening to their arguments and noisy voices???
There are children in here!!!
THIS! This is the reason why in 2016 I moved out of the house and to the other city where my sisters lived before when they were still working there. This is the reason why I opt to work there. Because of their flippin pride, their fights!
Canât they just be decent people and you know, TALK CALMLY!
JUST FLIPPIN TALK!
Theyâre making my anxiety levels rise.
Sorry about the sudden rantâŠ

i love reading poetry & not fully understanding it its like u get a glimpse of the poetâs heart/feelings/soul/mind but only that. ull never truly know wht they r conveying & the stories behind each word and thats comforting for some reasonÂ
Pros of writing my own story: I know all the twists already
Cons of writing my own story: I know all the twists already
Plot twist: I apparently donât know all the plot twists in my story and one just randomly wrote itself so now I have to readjust the whole thing from the beginning
Asflahdlahflhanfks
Me: I donât know if I ever want to be pregnant, Iâd rather adopt a kid or two that are a bit older
Someone: Are you SURE? Older adoptees present UNIQUE CHALLENGES
Me: We are discussing human beings not digital pets
Literally every child every born and/or parented presents unique challenges. Itâs like people are unique individualsâŠ..or somethingâŠâŠâŠâŠ.
An amazing and revolutionary concept
When people ask me, âWhy do you want to adopt teenagers?â I always answer, âBecause you asked like that.â
Iâm real over it. If I become a foster mom to a 17 year old kid and I get the privilege of the option to adopt them? You better believe I am legally making that kid mine.
âTheyâll be a legal adult in no time, why spend the money to adopt? Theyâll be aged out of the system.â
Thereâs no aging out of family, Marvin.
âThey might be rebellious or smoke or do drugs or steal things! What if they wonât listen to you?â
Then I guess Iâll have to step up and do some fruxking parenting, Stanley.
âYou want to adopt problem children then?â
All. Children. Are. Problem. Children. If youâre not prepared to deal with the fact that at some point, any child ever, whether you birthed them yourself or adopted them at any age, could become a problem? Then you are NOT ready to have children, and should really just step off and let the people who actually want to be parents live in peace with their kids.
Hey Iâm so glad this post is picking up
there will be a moment when you realize you are more grown up than your parents are. this is the loss of childhood, my love. it is when youâre standing in the kitchen and one of your parents is screaming about something and you recognize: you will let them win the fight not because you are wrong, but simply because you know that they will keep shouting unless you drop the subject. you expect them to have childish understandings of things. they will hold onto their concept of the world as if it was not a changing thing. they must be right, and they must be somehow more right than you, always, in everything. their idea of control is so necessary to who they are that you just let it go.
this is the moment. you are 11 or 17 or 21. and you realize that youâre more mature than they ever were.Â
and in some odd, sad way, this frees you. where they have stagnated, you continue.
