studying the book of genesis and i got to the part where god floods the earth and it say how it killed all of mankind and all the land-dwelling animals and birds and stuff and i realized that it says nothing about killing the sea creatures so i was like "god what kinda special treatment the fish be getting if they didn't get killed in the flood"

and god said "why would i put the fish on the ark if the whole world was covered with water"

HI FRIEND..... THIS IS GONNA BE LONG I APOLOGIZE

i'm gonna sound like a huge asshole but i'm kind of keeping my idea a secret for the time being bc i don't know yet if i'm going to write a full fledged fic (haven't even started playing yet, i'm working on other projects i want to get done before letting the cowboy brain fully take over!) and i don't want the idea stolen. idk if it's unique enough for that (tbh i don't think it's that good so if i ever come up w something better i will gladly share this one) as i haven't read lots of no tb arthur longfics BUT people snatching ideas has been a problem for me before and made me a bit more gatekeepy. sorry😭 if i end up not writing a fic and just snippets, then i will reevaluate and probably the idea will be open for use (maybe w cred? idk idk)

I WILL SAY. i fully agree getting tb is pretty central to arthur's red dead redemption. (i enjoy a good fix it where he just never gets it and everything goes on the same as much as i enjoy fix its where bad shit does happen) but the experience of it is that he knows he's going to die; by that logic i feel you could create pretty much any brush/inevitable death (that he somehow escapes) a good redeemer. even if he escapes that new inevitable death, there has to have been a period/moment he thought he would die, and it forced him to reflect. that's essentially what the TB does, though with the added nuance of him knowing his days on earth are limited and deciding how he will live the remainder of his life.

i had another idea earlier that maybe him almost getting offed by the o'driscoll's and his recovery (which, if he gets as fucked up as i have heard, would medically take quite a while) i feel you could spin that into a bit of a kick in the butt like the TB diagnosis. esp if you injure him a little more and add angst in the fraught relationship between him and dutch 😈 make him reflect on being so wounded and believing he'd die and if that thought frightens him, why? maybe he believes he's been living regret-free up until now, but when forced to look back at his life, he realizes how false that is. reflect on how much his relationship to dutch has crumbled and if dutch is going to get him brutally killed for nothing, maybe he needs to reexamine his priorities in life. arthur is a very interior person and quite obviously thinks a LOT about himself, his positioning, his life, acts, etc. you can 100% use that to your advantage by making him get way deep into his own head on something like this.

Bro nah i totally get it i’m the same way i have ONEEEEEEE angle that I’m gonna put in my fic but i’m gonna keep the details close to my chest but overall i’m thinking about how maybe it’s not the fact that he’s gonna die that changes him but maybe something happens that kinda slaps him in the face that he has the chance to LIVE but in order to do so needs to radically change himself and that’s where he gets the motivation to be better?? Idk i’m just trying to figure out exactly how much i’m going to deviate from the canon yk cuz it’s literally an inversion of the in-game plot 😅

trying to write a no tb! Arthur au is SOOOOOO HARDDDDDDD cuz his whole character arc RELIES on him becoming terminally ill that’s the whole catalyst of his redemption so if you take that away why would he ever change ykkkkk not to mention you have to explain how he avoids the tb ugh—

cuz then okay yeah give him something to live for been there done that but now i have to figure out how the last mission is gonna go because in the red dead redemption mission THEY ALL THINK JOHN DIED FROM THE TRAIN and he goes back to confront the GANG cuz he knows he’s a dead man but if he has something to live for then WHY WOULD HE GO BACK

Then i decided on “oh yeah he’d go back to bury john and then find him alive and that would run” THEN HOW IS THE GANG GONNA FIND THEM AND HAVE THAT STANDOFF IF HE DOESN’T GO BACK TO CAMP 😩
