Penelope redesign! 🪡
Typing this out in a post cause I can’t draw but at the end of the song Monster when Odysseus sings “Penelopeee Telemachuuus” I personally imagine his visions of them turning away from him in shock and horror at the monster he’s agreed to become
Which of course juxtaposes the reality that they love and accept him no matter what he’s done
But he doesn’t know that. Teehee
Finally listened to epic and now I’m obsessed.
Epic the Musical AU where Odysseus is a chef and is working on an elaborate feast that is taking a while because he keeps running out of ingredients. The suitors are their guests, but dinner is taking too long and they start getting restless.
Penelope: I'll be here, buying you thyme
Penelope from The Odyssey 2026 🏹💖 #odyssey
mmmwah
i would really love to see a retelling of the odyssey but from penelope's perspective.
penelope is from sparta, the people revere the god of war Ares but when she meets her future husband, she is delighted that he honors the goddess of war Athena.
as they court more, she realizes that odysseus has a far more personal connection to the goddess than she realized. but it's respectful, more of an apprentice and a master than anything else. they get married and her eyes refuse to catch on the woman in the back. when she has their son, an owl makes a nest outside the window.
and then odysseus is off to war. he doesn't even bother trying to prepare penelope for the duties of their kingdom, but he does pull aside each attendent and servant and make them swear their loyalty to her, helping in whatever way she needs so she never even has to ask. they scoff at their king as if they would dare do anything else.
odysseus is gone. he misses his sons first steps, his first words, his fittings for proper clothing off the loom. it's when telemachus reaches the tender age of boyhood that penelope has grown tired of prayers for help. since odysseus left, more and more men have been vying for the throne, trying to woo her affections through grand fights and broken destruction. the numbers have only continued to grow, and telemachus knows the suitors face more than his fathers when he is no more than 4. penelope is tired of defending herself, so she makes a deal with the suitors: once she finishes weaving her mourning shroud for her father, then she shall pick a suitor.
she divides the palace in two, one side for the unwelcome guests she cannot rid, and the other for hers. her subjects, her servants, her son. she chooses her sons old nursery with the owl nest t the window to set up her loom. penelope has not asked the gods for much besides her husbands safe return, and has been diligent in their sacrifices. it's due for a return somehow, she figures, however unconventional her approach might be. she melts sweet smelling wax and begins her thread pleading to her husbands goddess to guide her hands, to see where her husband is she looks towards the sun until her eyes water to ask for visions of truth.
her prayers and deeds are answered. beneath her own hands everyday she watches her husbands journey under the sun, and every night as she unthreads the spools she notices how they fall apart and wear only around her husband. she is careful to never cut those threads.
the entire journey is raptured with bright looms and under callused hands. she cries for her husband, cheers when he wins, and shows her son all she is able. she gives more thanks to athena and apollo.
the gift suddenly stops after a storm, and she knows her husband is home.
When I get married and when it’s time for the bride to come out, me and my future green flag husband will start playing “I Will Fall In Love With you Again” at our wedding no matter how corny it is, I AM NOT GOING THROUGH THE LIFE IM GOING THEOUHG RIGHT NOW FOR MY FUTURE HISBAND TO NOT TREAT ME LIKE PENELOPE (Epic ody not the OG ody) AND NOT PLAY THAT SONG AT OUR WEDDING
