An emotionally significant hug between two women who are not related is so, so rare on screen and I think that is part of why Supertrashco ™ is suffering from collective sugar shock right now. It was so wholly unexpected, because women on screen barely ever exist outside of men.

And here we have these two women characters who have, arguably, experienced the highest amount of growth this season, physically connect with each other in a crescendo of all that inspiration, pain and transformation they have sparked within one another, and it’s so visceral, because not only did both characters really need that moment in each other’s arms, but so did we.

We needed to see two women who are not related melt into each other with so much support and affection, so much trust and hope. And it just shows to me again how starved we are for on-screen woman-on-woman interactions.
