Joel de la Fuente and Celia Keenan Bolger play the parents of a young American boy who is believed to be a reincarnation of a high Buddhist teacher in The Oldest Boy, a new play by Sarah Ruhl that will premiere at Lincoln Center starting November 3.
The Oldest Boy tells the story of Tenzin, the toddler son of an American woman (to be played by Celia Keenan-Bolger) and a Tibetan man (Joel de la Fuente) who is recognized as the reincarnation of a high Buddhist teacher. Differing cultures contend with competing ideas of faith and love when two monks seek permission to take Tenzin to a monastery in India to begin his training as a spiritual master. His parents must decide whether to send their young son away or keep him home.
I know we’ve gotten a lot of exciting theater news today, but let’s not lose this piece in all of it. This sounds interesting.
