I sort of want to pick Longes mac nUislenn as the subject for my next couple of videos but idk if that’ll just result in me crying over Naoise mac Uisneach again. Probably. It doesn’t seem unlikely.
If I do tackle it, it’ll likely be the earlier version, just because I know it so much better. The later one has a lot going for it too, but I don’t feel as confident telling it; it gets super confusing towards the end.
I need to make a list of “medieval Irish characters I have too many feelings about” but I feel like it would just end up being “all of them”.
But Naoise gets higher on that list every time I think about him for more than like a minute.
Also still mad that we’re robbed of his youthful adventures with Cú Chulainn by virtue of everyone apparently forgetting that they’re supposed to have trained together. We could’ve had it aaaaaallllll…
Also given that Naoise and Fer Diad are the only ones listed among Scáthach’s fosterlings in both The Wooing of Emer and The Training of Cú Chulainn… where are my stories about Fer Diad and Naoise being friends??
(I mean, where is all of Naoise’s backstory, frankly, because he basically only turns up as an actual character in LmU and doesn’t get much chance to shine. But mostly I want to see that friendship. Because it would be incredible and because then all my medieval Irish tears could be concentrated into one narrative block and I could be emo about Fer Diad and Naoise simultaneously.)
