I’m so thrilled to be able to finally share the news that my short film PORTRAIT, starring Gloria Endres de Oliveira and Raphael Acloque, is finally complete; thanks to the tireless efforts of the talented cast and crew!
To celebrate I wanted to share some new graded stills with you, and soon, Portrait’s beautiful original song ‘Unquiet’, composed and performed by talented musical goddess, Amy Kakoura.
PORTRAIT is a feminist period short film inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s short story ‘The Oval Portrait’ and pre-raphaelite artist and muse Lizzie Siddal. The film tells the story of Sybil, a gifted young artist who discovers that her passion for both her work and her artist-lover are irreconcilable - a realisation which has devastating consequences.

Randomly plugging this again because I finally got around to showing it to @amilynh the other day and decided I’m still pretty darn proud of it. (And very much wish ALL the indie filmmakers had their shit together the way Colin does. The fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants guerrilla filmmaking thing has a certain thrill, but it kinda gets old.)
This is pretty much Colin’s love letter to Hammer and the Italian horror films of the 60s. (He was basically looking for the second coming of Barbara Steele, so I’m eternally grateful that he could see it when a 5'9" ginger read for him.) It’s more atmospheric than gory.
We were accepted to Fangoria’s Online Film Festival, but Fango has been having some difficulties and I dunno if anything is going to happen with it. :-/ I was so stoked when the selection announcement came out and I was like "Holy crap, George Romero and Tom Savini and TOM FREAKIN HOLLAND are going to see this baby!“ (Why yes, Fright Night is one of the most formative storytelling influences of my life.) Even if we get no nods in the awards, that thought makes me so happy. But with the festival up in the air, I have no idea if the judges have watched the things or not. Fingers crossed that Fango’s organizational issues clear up soon…
