So it’s been about a week since Like Us was released and I hope everyone’s bought their copy! I’ve just received my lovely t-shirt bundle, so I’m well pleased. So that means everyone has had the time to soak in on how amazing the album truly is (I’m sure all of you will think the same way :)). Right so we thought it would be a good idea to write a little review of Jon’s latest album.
Like all of his previous albums, Like Us is fuelled with his soul capturing vocals and his signature piano driven tunes. I’ve been a fan of Jon since Beautiful Disaster, always looking forward to his soothing vocals and insane piano rifts. I really love how he writes from his heart, you can really tell especially with his lyrics. Jon also sings from his heart, you can just hear it in his tone of voice, its so genuine and it makes you feel like he means every single word and that he’s singing to you, definitely takes you to a magical place.
Overall the album is a very good listen especially if you want something nice and fun to relax to. I can already picture myself reading a nice book with a cup of tea, by the fire place, whilst it is snowing outside, and having Like Us being played at the background, on my record player, preferably. It is such a nice down to earth album about how he feels about love and his life, just like all his previous records. His soulful voice, just filling the room, especially when he goes into his amazing falsetto.
Stand out tracks: Before You, I Am Always Going to Love You, Don’t Mess With My Girl, I Want You Anyway, Thank God and Let Go.
I really like how this is slightly haunting, how it brings out a lot of feelings in each person when they listen to it. It’s very synch driven and some what calming at the same time. It is a sweet romantic song about how a lot of things change and feelings grow after a man meets his partner. He never knew what love could do before you, he’s finally opening his eyes for the very first time, realising how much more he could give in his relationship. It is pretty empowering and life changing.
I Am Always Going to Love You
Another sweet romantic track that you could possibly dance to at your wedding. It portrays a man professing his love for his woman till the end of his dying days. Very feel good, happy song that brings me to my knees. There’s a nice solo number at the bridge for a couple to dance to.
This is possibly my favourite track on the album. It is so much fun and hilarious. This is probably not very jon-like, the general song is, but its super upbeat and happy. He sort of says stuff in the bridge and at the end. It is a very piano driven track about not messing with his girl. Listen to it and you’ll see what I mean.
Thank God, provides a kind of folky vibe that’s really chill and nice to listen to on a Saturday afternoon whilst you sip your tea and read a nice book. It takes you to a place of tranquility and calm. It’s slightly country, but not really. If you’re a fan of Kacey Musgraves, you’ll understand what I mean. It’s really well written and the chorus is uplifting about finding the love of your life, with you whistling about how happy you are :)
