Taxian Jun and Mo Zongshi really ARE the same person. And it’s not because they inhibit the same body or because Chu Wanning says they’re the same.

It’s because we see a bit of Taxian Jun in Mo Zongshi when Mo Zongshi acts petty, when he ruined that Rufeng sect wedding, when he insisted to sew handerkershiefs for Xue Meng and Shi Mei instead of letting his Shizun do it cause he felt too possessive over his Shizun’s handmade work, when he felt too possessive over a woman sending his Shizun clothes that he burned them all (mentioned in the extra chapters). No matter how hard he tries to be “righteous”, his petty, possessive and wrathful side still appears every now and then and it’s fierce, intense, irrational and everything thag his Taxian Jun side is.

Meanwhile with Taxian Jun, it’s the way he sometimes randomly holds Chu Wanning, the way he hugs him when he’s sick to prevent him from being cold, the way he would disguise himself and go to the village to complete some tasks here and there (also mentioned in the extra chapters), the way he hates but can’t deny the fact that he loves the village atmosphere and work and food more than any of what the palace life offered, the way he has a soft spot for Xue Meng. No matter how hard he tries to be “vicious”, his gentle, hardworking, righteous and caring side can still be glimpsed here and there.

I just think that they both really are one person, it’s just that they each reject the other’s version of them. Mo Zongshi hates his Taxian Jun side cause of the guilt and regret that comes from it, Taxian Jun hates his Mo Zongshi side cause of the vulnerability and weakness that comes from it. And so they never merge. No Zongshi feels like Taxian Jun is everything he was forced into, and Taxian Jun feels like Mo Zongshi is everything that was stolen from him. But ultimately, deep down, they both have so much of each other in themselves, because they both know they’re one and the same, they just can’t accept it.

I also feel like Mo Ran 1.0 was the weird intersection between the two of them, the version that would be formed again should they ever merge, the balance between the two personalities without much rejection and repulsion from both sides.
