Ao3 gentle cough slowly grow rougher and more often. Tumblr runs their hands through Ao3’s hair, comforting their sicken partner. “Are you okay?.. Do you need another one shot to soothe the cough?” Tumblr worried as they pushed a hair behind ao3’s ear. Their hand trailed down Ao3’s face, neck, shoulder and more until Tumblr interlocked their hand’s with their lover. “I’ll be fine, I promise.” Ao3 moved their body, now facing Tumblr— Ao3 knew their body was too weak and fragile to move but they would walk to the moon and back just to look at Tumblr’s eyes. As the 2 shared a loving gaze into each others eyes, coughing struck. “Are you sure, it won’t take long to get a one shot ready for-“ “I said I’ll be fine.. I just wanted to look into your eyes” Ao3 cut their worrying partner. They knew it was their time to go but they didn’t worry want Tumblr..

“I love you..” Ao3 whispered before closing their eyes, body quickly relaxing— More than one should relax. “Ao3..? AO3! WAKE UP!” Tumblr shouted but each word was met with silence.. They wrapped their arms around Ao3’s lifeless body and sobbed, sobbed until night came then sobbed until morning.

lol it's a meme, originated from how tough ao3 writers are, how ao3 writers will write through any challenging time in their lives.

their house being on fire? they still write fanfics

them just losing their job? they still write fanfics

them going through homelessness? they still write fanfics

them getting hit by a car? they still write fanfics

them being hospitalized? they still write fanfics

them having just given birth? they still write fanfics

them being put on trial? they still write fanfics

and the list goes on.

because these are the kind of life updates ao3 authors often share in author's notes section to give their audience a bit of an insight into what goes on in their lives or why the updates are being slowed down. sometimes you can literally see them being like "lol sorry for the slow updates guys. my house burnt down", and most of the times, it's not even a joke. they literally go through these challenging times in their lives and they are still writing fanfics, they are still prioritizing their fics and they still feel like they have to apologize to their readers for the lack of updates. they still try their absolute best to write through any challenges life throw at them.

thus it kind of becomes an inside joke within the community that it's an "ao3 curse" (difficult things happening to ao3 writers, but they still write their fanfics despite it all)
